This week, we're thrilled to finally share a milestone that marks a significant leap forward in our journey: we have successfully secured a grant from Media Cymru to fund R&D into building our charitable giving platform integrated with the gaming experiences. This project has the potential to redefine how players engage with philanthropy, merging entertainment and purpose in ways we’ve only begun to imagine, and we're excited to continue that journey.
Over the next six months, our focus will be on refining, testing, and iterating on this concept, ensuring it’s grounded in user feedback, market demand, and scalability. This isn’t just about creating a feature—it’s about building a sustainable business model with the capacity to grow and evolve, just like the Hangry Animals universe. Through our smaller games in development, merch, plushies, comics, and animated series pushing ahead with test content, we are not stopping until we're fully primed on all fronts to make a splash. Our games will define the vibes and this R&D will validate all our thinking and community feedback to date. Again, small but mighty, never wavering. We start in earnest on the 3rd Feb and will be updating everyone on developments weekly.
This Seed funding is a kickstart to the foundation of building a sustainable business model with our peers and value proposition support. We then have the opportunity to refine our pitch and case to be eligible for a growth fund of £50,000 to put our theories, key findings, and user interviews into practice to build the Hangryverse platform out further in a follow-up fund later in the year. There's no guarantee, but we're determined to give it our all and represent Hangry as best we know how. Wooop. Exciting times.

To make this vision a reality, we’re partnering with some incredible teams:
PDR (Product Design Research Centre): Renowned for their expertise in user-centered design, they’ll guide us in creating a platform that not only works seamlessly but feels intuitive and engaging for players.
Alacrity Foundation: Their business and product development insights will help us ensure the charitable giving platform delivers tangible value and is built for longevity in a competitive market.
We can't wait to get into the details with these amazing teams that will 100% help us grow and more importantly in the right direction.
What began as an art-driven concept to balance mental well-being during the pandemic has certainly grown in scope — characters destined for a TV show and game—has evolved into a multifaceted vision with the potential to make a real-world impact. Now, it’s time to polish that vision and prepare it for the limelight.
While we celebrate this success, I also want to acknowledge another part of our journey. We weren’t successful in securing the grand prize at the Press Start Capital ShipAThon. However, this is not the end of the road. We’ve been invited to put our name forward for their Q2 Fellowship Program, a prestigious opportunity to further develop our business and network with some of the best in the industry.

This recognition reinforces that what we’re building resonates, and it’s a reminder that every step—whether a win or a lesson—is a stepping stone towards our bigger goals. We've learnt a lot on this accelerator about product market fit already, user acquisition, what type, length, genre and game loop folks are resonating with, and an opportunity to learn more in a cohort of fellow founders and builders will be amazing. We hope to update everyone closer to Q2 what the status of this adventure will be.
