Hubs Network, a network of spaces...
This idea is neither new nor particularly innovative. It has been shaped and formed by many who share the values of building a collaborative, open society. We do not claim it as our own. Even the name “Hubs Network” was coined by Roberto from Liminal Village, long before we began giving structure to this project. And the inspiration from Akasha, was never to have just a single hub in Barcelona...Ethereum is a native Network mentality and the thought process is never to isolate but always to connect. Akasha Hub is Akasha Hubs and there was one in Dublin and in Berlin. Each were different but operated under teh same set of Values.
Previously, with David Bovill, we participated in an initiative called the S.P.A.C.E. Network. We also engaged with the Akasha Foundation, which initially proposed the Akasha Hubs Network. Eventually, we realized that Akasha Hub Barcelona is unique. We began to build a network that goes beyond Web3 or Ethereum. The core values that drive us are shared by many spaces, co-livings, and community centers. Hubs Network simply connects spaces and already existing networks—just like many others are doing.
The idea has been developed over many years by many people, each creating networks in their own way.
We, Lorenzo Patuzzo and Nikoline Arns, decided to step up and self-fund the creation of a minimal structure that Hubs can work with, build on, and further develop. This is an effort to connect brilliant minds with physical spaces and create value beyond the space itself—because society needs Hubs to be self-sustainable, and to remain in full control of their mission, vision, and objectives. Through building Akasha Hub Barcelona, we understand how difficult this is, especially when staying true to the values we share.
As abstract and complex as networks may seem—despite theories, token models, shared ownership, and reputation systems—on a basic level, all real-life spaces deal with similar core elements. Some key activities help make these networks function: events, residencies, communication, and even products.
While reinventing society, we must stay grounded and work within the systems we currently have. It is a challenging space to operate in. Many of us struggle to balance legacy systems with future possibilities to catalyze change. IRL spaces like Akasha Hub Barcelona exist in this liminal space: laboratories for new ways of working, living, and creating, while maintaining just enough structure to operate and grow.
This is where the Hubs Network can bring value—by joining forces with other IRL spaces, sharing content and knowledge, and generating combined value through simple activities. This can create the additional income needed for these spaces to survive, giving them the capacity and focus to continue creating in alignment with their values and communities.
With love and gratitude to all of you who are connected...
