News, 7 May, 2020, São Paulo and Microsoft launched a new generation of players PS5 and® X®, respectively, in November, which generated enthusiasm among global players. However, after 29 months of intense competition, the distribution gap between the two mainframes is becoming increasingly apparent. According to the latest data from the VGChartz website, as of March 2023, the global distribution of PS5 amounted to 3594 million, compared with the 2135 million copies of the X® Series, a difference of 1459 million. PS5 occupies a market share of 7 per cent, while ± X® only 37.3 per cent.
The VGChartz site is a professional play data analysis platform, and each month a comparative report on sales of games hardware and software is published. Its most recent report, which compares the sales of PS5 and ± X® since listing, notes that PS5 are in the lead of major markets in North America, Europe, Japan, etc. in the form of “X”S,” X” series and “S” in other regions. IT House noted that the report also analysed the comparison between the two mainframes and the previous generation of mainframes, which showed that PS5 is currently lagging behind PS4, approximately 287 million, while the X® series is leading around 95 million.
Why can PS5 be so overwhelmingly capable of defeating.” X®? According to industry, this is primarily due to: first, PS5 has more exclusive and high-quality play to attract more players; secondly, PS5 has some advantage in design, performance, compatibility and provides better user experience; thirdly, PS5 has done better in market promotion and distribution of channels, increasing its branding and accessibility; and finally, PS5 has a better client base and loyalty in a number of important markets, such as Japan and Europe.
This does not mean, however, that there is no advantage or hope. Microsoft is also continuously improving and innovating its player products by introducing attractive services and functions, such as® Pass, cloud games, downstream compatibility. In addition, Microsoft has acquired a number of well-known play developers and IPs, adding a number of points for future games. Therefore, Xbox Series X®S is still likely to close the gap with PS5 in the future, even over.
