Walking into the fire rescue station of Gongyuan West Road, Huimin District, Hohhot, some firefighters are training in floor fire internal skill exercises. With a ladder and a rope, the young firefighters can climb the stairs on the outer wall in only ten seconds, and they are agile.
“For firefighters, speed is time, and time is life.” Gao Wei, assistant station master of Gongyuan West Road Fire Rescue Station in Huimin District of Hohhot, said, “firefighters are a small group. In the face of difficulties, they should unite and cooperate to overcome all difficulties.”
Gao Wei, 39, is a “veteran” to the letter. This year is his 19th year of sticking to his post. Gao Wei described the daily work of firefighters as follows: stand by for 24 hours. As soon as the alarm bell rings, you must immediately wear equipment weighing up to 50 or 60 kilograms, quickly gather out of the warehouse and rush to the scene at the first time.
On May 9, 2019, there was a fire accident in the home of Xingan North Road in the new urban area of Hohhot. The sergeant Gao Wei, who had just completed the training of nine subjects, fought for more than 9 hours, successively replaced 9 air respirator cylinders, went deep into the fire building for investigation, search and rescue, internal attack and fire fighting for dozens of times, and always set an example and charged ahead. There are still many such fire-fighting and rescue tasks. Gao Wei always adheres to the front line of the battle. He always says, “don’t fight, don’t rob. I’m a veteran and I have more experience than you.”
365 days a year, 24 hours a day, year-round preparation, day and night. Over the years, Gao Wei has always been fighting in the front line of fire fighting and rescue, excellently completed more than 7000 fire fighting and rescue tasks, rescued more than 510 trapped people, and has been praised by the Ministry’s Fire Bureau, corps and detachment for more than 20 times.
In addition, Gao Wei sorted out a complete set of systematic training methods for the squadron’s continuously updated 33 kinds of special equipment from the aspects of equipment name, purpose, structural composition, technical parameters, maintenance, operation and use, safety front and so on, so as to provide comrades in arms with a comprehensive and systematic understanding. To this end, Gao Wei became an “expert” in squadron equipment.
As a “veteran” of fire fighting work, Gao Wei unreservedly taught young people the practical experience of fire fighting and rescue in the past 19 years. At the same time, as a Communist Party member and a firefighter in the front line of grass-roots fire fighting, Gao Wei also has high requirements for himself: “rush ahead when the people need it most, save the people and water and fire, help the people and danger, give the people strength, and fight bravely to maintain the safety of people’s lives and property.”
