Following Tao Rui, director of the office of the natural resources, forestry and grassland Bureau of Guinan County, the reporter boarded the 21 meter high observation platform in huangshatou Desert Park, where we can see the sand control achievements of the people of Guinan county over the years.
As Tao Rui looked at the hinterland of the desert in the direction of his fingers, the green sand prevention square grids have firmly “bound” the sand dunes. The poplar, black willow, Caragana, Elymus and other plants in the grid tightly locked the water in the long yellow sand and reduced the damage of wind sand to the local area of huangshatou.
“On April 12, Guinan county organized all cadres and workers to hold a mobilization meeting for land greening in the whole county, marking the full start of land greening in 2022. Tree planting was carried out in mugetan desert, degetan and other places, and leading cadres, students, armed police officers and soldiers of all units and all walks of life were required to plant trees here. This year, voluntary tree planting will last for three days, and it is expected to complete 1.06 million voluntary trees and repair 4.5 million net fences Meters, 116.67 hectares of forest land have been pruned and 200 hectares of forest land have been watered. It is understood that before the middle of last century, the deserts around huangshatou and mugetan wantonly expanded and spread to the southeast at the speed of 5 to 15 meters every year, and more than 200 hectares of grassland and cultivated land were swallowed up by the desert every year. The rampant yellow sand has seriously eroded the living environment of the people in Guinan County, resulting in a situation of “sand forcing people to retreat”. It is urgent to fight a “war to combat desertification”. That is, since then, the people of Guinan county have started a “war to combat desertification” for more than 20 years.
Tao Rui is from guide. In 2017, he went to work in Guinan county. Guide county is known as “little Jiangnan on the plateau”. When he came to Guinan, he knew how different it was from his hometown with beautiful mountains and waters and beautiful mountains and rivers!
“The first feeling of coming here is that the wind and sand are very heavy, the climate conditions are not very good, and there are few kinds of seedlings in the county. Since 2018, Guinan county has carried out a large-scale three-year action of land greening. With the support of superior departments, the county Party committee and county government mobilized forces from all walks of life, party, government, military and people’s learning, and implemented large-scale afforestation and prevention in the surrounding areas of the county, huangshatou, mugetan desert, duoshizegou and other places The “Great Green Wall in the desert” with a length of more than 300 kilometers has been built through ecological protection projects such as sand control and mountain closure for afforestation. Today, the forest coverage rate of the whole county has increased from 2.6% before 1996 to 19.24% today, realizing a great reversal from “sand forcing people to retreat” to “green sand moving in and out”. Over the past five years, I have obviously felt that the sandstorms in the county and along the way in Guinan have decreased significantly. On the way back to Guinan, I can also see the grass grid for sand prevention and control in the distance, and I can see the importance Guinan County attaches to ecological protection. “ Tao Rui said frankly.
Tao Rui told reporters that the reason why Guinan county can achieve positive results in sand prevention and control is that Guinan County adapts measures to local conditions and accurately distinguishes governance measures according to different site conditions, adopts the way of “please come in and go out”, and increases the experimental promotion and application of new technologies while strengthening the communication and cooperation with scientific research institutions and colleges.
Tao Rui said, “for example, in mobile and semi mobile sand dunes, we combine engineering sand fixation with biological sand control. 1.5m is set on the windward side × For the 1.5m grass square sand barrier, the poplar shall be planted in the set grass square sand barrier, the black willow shall be inserted and the Caragana Artemisia shall be sown, and the pole insertion afforestation shall be implemented on the leeward slope. In the hilly land, we adopt seedling afforestation, plant black willow seedlings and seabuckthorn seedlings, and seal them with net fence. “
Through in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the 13th provincial Party Congress, Guinan County continued to carry out comprehensive ecological management. Relying on a large number of ecological backbone projects such as three North Shelterbelt, sand prevention and control, grazing prohibition and enclosure, and Sanjiangyuan phase II, the forest coverage rate of the whole county reached 19.24%, and the grassland vegetation coverage reached 65.82%, an increase of 4.3 percentage points and 13 percentage points respectively over the 12th Five Year Plan. Tao Rui said that in the future, we will strengthen the concept of “green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains”, continue to adhere to and carry forward the “Guinan sand control spirit”, start from ourselves, be the vanguard of ecological protection, and ensure that the clear water of a river flows eastward.
