Last week I announced the launch of Cedalio, my new company. The first product we launched is a decentralized storage solution and I want to share why I think it matters. 

It's pretty clear that we need to decentralize our data storage. We've seen how it's been abused by web2 companies, who are constantly looking for ways to monetize our digital lives. Decentralized online storage solves this problem by giving us control over our own information so we can keep it safe while still allowing companies to make money off of their services.

We live in an age of information. Modern society relies on the Internet and its underlying technologies to store, organize, and share data. In this digital world, data is stored in vast centralized databases that are controlled by a handful of corporations and governments. In addition to being vulnerable to hacking attacks—and most recently, the Cambridge Analytica scandal—this centralized model means that users have no control over their personal information or privacy.

The lack of transparency regarding how these companies use our data has led many people to distrust them; after all, who knows what they're doing with our personal information? We need peace of mind when using online services such as email or social media platforms like Twitter or Instagram.

To start, let's take a look at centralized data storage. The biggest advantage of centralized online storage is its convenience: you don't have to worry about downloading or uploading files, and you can access the information from anywhere on any device. It also makes it easy for companies to track your behavior and sell that information to advertisers, which is why they're so eager to collect as much information as possible.

But this convenience comes at a price: centralized data storage makes it easy for governments and corporations to censor content they don't like by blocking access entirely or slowing down speeds until someone can no longer access their content. Just look at the Twitter scandal or what’s going on in China and you will know what I’m talking about.

People aren't just interested in decentralization, they're also looking to take control. It's the same reason why people are growing an interest in cryptocurrency and other privacy-focused technologies like Tor. Users want to own or at least have a saying on how companies are using and selling our data or giving it away without our knowledge.

These are just some of the reasons why we should care about decentralized online storage. There are many more, but I think this gives you a good idea of where we’re at today and why it’s important that we move toward decentralization. The future of data storage is bright!
