Labor Day is labor day. With the development of the times, although the commemorative attribute of Labor Day is weakening and replaced by tourism and consumption, its rich traditional connotation should be inherited and carried forward, that is, it should become an education day of “respecting labor, respecting workers and respecting labor achievements” and an alert day for every worker to “examine labor concepts and correct labor attitudes”.

There are a wide range of topics related to labor. In terms of labor education alone, there are more or less problems in both schools and families. For example, many parents like to arrange tasks that should be completed by their children and do housework instead of their children. The word “labor” in the curriculum of some schools has been quietly replaced by “Mathematics and chemistry”, and some necessary voluntary labor has become a stage for some people to show. The phenomenon of not cherishing the fruits of labor, not wanting to work and not being able to work has bred or emerged in some places.

The well-known public service advertising language “labor creates a better future” has been deeply printed in the minds of generations, and has imperceptibly affected many people to establish a correct labor value orientation and a vibrant labor spirit. However, the lack of labor education in recent years has distorted some teenagers’ labor values and lack of labor skills, especially a small number of children who grow up in a doting family environment. They want to live a comfortable and comfortable life, but they are unwilling to work. Some people do not know how to work in their jobs, lack job responsibilities, single work skills, are afraid of hardship and setbacks, are not proud of work, but are ashamed of work.

A few people are unwilling to work and go home to “eat the old”. A few years ago, there was a college student in Yun County, Shiyan, Hubei Province. After graduation, he gave up his job, didn’t do anything, and even didn’t want to cook. Finally, he was starved to death at home. Although such cases belong to extreme cases, “do not want to work, do not want to work, do not know how to work” is a phenomenon that can not be ignored.

In March 2020, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council issued the “opinions on Comprehensively Strengthening labor education in primary, middle and primary schools in the new era”, which made a detailed and specific deployment for the comprehensive construction of a labor education system reflecting the characteristics of the times from the perspective of cultivating new people who are responsible for national rejuvenation, focusing on the long-term and the present; Paying close attention to school education while taking into account family education and social education is a programmatic document for strengthening youth labor education at present and in the future, which has very strong practical significance and historical value.

Strengthening labor education is not only a huge and systematic project, but also a process of perseverance and long-term achievements. It can not be achieved in one move. In terms of school education, it is necessary to include labor education in compulsory courses, compile detailed labor education syllabus according to different schools and age groups, compile and print different teaching material systems, and formulate different assessment methods. Primary and secondary schools should make every effort to get out of the examination oriented education cycle and truly achieve the all-round development of “morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor”. Colleges, secondary schools and vocational colleges should cultivate students’ correct labor values and good labor quality, Strengthen labor skill education and lay a solid foundation for their employment.

In terms of family education, parents should create labor opportunities for their children, teach their children to master the necessary housework skills such as laundry and cooking, and avoid doing everything in an all-round way and excessive doting. As far as social education is concerned, we should increase the publicity of positive models and the encouragement of negative models through various ways, so that “taking labor as pride and laziness as shame” has become the general consensus of the whole society.

Happiness comes from struggle. No matter how the years change, labor is the eternal theme of society and the concept of labor that every teenager should establish. I hope that labor education in the new era can enable every young person to establish a correct concept of labor, forge excellent labor skills, and contribute wisdom and strength to the realization of the second Centennial goal of building a powerful socialist modern country in an all-round way in ordinary and ordinary jobs.
