Bitcoin 2025, happening May 27–29, 2025, at the Venetian Conference Center in Las Vegas, is set to make history with an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most Bitcoin point-of-sale transactions in 8 hours. Organized by BTC Inc, this event aims to demonstrate Bitcoin's evolution into a practical medium of exchange, attracting over 30,000 attendees, 300 exhibitors, and 500 speakers. It's a chance for the community to showcase Bitcoin's real-world functionality, especially through innovative payment methods.

Attendees will receive special edition Bolt Cards to make contactless Bitcoin payments, possibly linked to their Lightning wallets.
Prepare by setting up a Lightning wallet and funding it with Bitcoin to participate in purchases, including at a merch store with a 21% discount.
The event, from May 27–29, 2025, expects over 30,000 attendees, making it a significant moment for Bitcoin adoption.
“Bitcoin 2025 is an opportunity for the community to demonstrate Bitcoin’s real-world functionality as a medium of exchange,” said Didier Lewis, Chief Financial Officer of BTC Inc. “The Bolt Card is a key part of this experience, offering attendees an easy way to make purchases using Bitcoin. By enabling direct, contactless payments across the event, we aim to showcase Bitcoin’s readiness as a modern and practical currency.”
The Bolt Card is a contactless payment card using NFC technology and the Bitcoin Lightning Network, allowing users to tap and pay with Bitcoin instantly at Lightning-enabled POS devices, similar to traditional debit cards but with lower fees. At Bitcoin 2025, 4,000 special edition Bolt Cards will be issued, featuring four designs honoring key figures like Senator Cynthia Lummis, Michael Saylor, Satoshi Nakamoto, and Jack Dorsey, with 1,000 of each design. These cards are both functional for transactions and collectible souvenirs.
To participate, attendees should set up a Lightning wallet (options include Wallet of Satoshi, BlueWallet, or Phoenix Wallet) and fund it with Bitcoin before the event. At the conference, you'll likely need to link your Bolt Card to this wallet or transfer Bitcoin to it to make purchases, such as at the Official Bitcoin Magazine Store, which offers a 21% discount on merchandise when paid with Bitcoin via Lightning. While specific setup instructions will be provided on-site, familiarizing yourself with the process can save time. Check the official Bolt Card website for more detailed guidance.
Using your Bolt Card for transactions, especially at the merch store and other vendors, will contribute to the record attempt, helping demonstrate Bitcoin's readiness as a modern currency. With such a large expected attendance, your participation could be part of a historic moment for Bitcoin adoption. Get ready to tap your way into the record books and be part of this exciting event!

The Bolt Card, used for the Bitcoin 2025 Guinness World Record attempt, relies on the Bitcoin Lightning Network for contactless payments. To ensure compatibility, attendees need a Lightning wallet that supports LNURLw (Lightning Network URL Withdraw) or similar protocols, as these facilitate the tap-to-pay functionality of the Bolt Card. In a more detailed overview of 2025 Bitcoin wallet options, I’ll address compatible wallets, including whether Leather (formerly Hiro Wallet) is suitable, and provide a comprehensive list of wallets that work with the Bolt Card for the event.
Leather Wallet (formerly Hiro Wallet) is primarily designed for managing Bitcoin assets like Ordinals, BRC-20 tokens, Stamps, and Runes, and it supports the Stacks Layer-2 chain. As of the latest information, Leather does not fully support the Lightning Network, which is critical for Bolt Card compatibility. A 2023 post on X from @LeatherBTC indicated that Lightning support was “coming soon,” but there’s no confirmation as of May 2025 that it has been implemented.
Why Leather May Not Work: The Bolt Card relies on Lightning Network protocols (e.g., LNURLw) for instant, off-chain transactions. Leather’s focus is on Bitcoin mainnet and Stacks, with no documented support for Lightning channels or LNURLw, making it incompatible for Bolt Card use at Bitcoin 2025.
Potential Future Compatibility: If Leather adds Lightning support before May 2025, it could become viable. Check leather.io or Leather’s official X account (@LeatherBTC) for updates closer to the event.
Alternative for Leather Users: If you use Leather for other Bitcoin assets, it looks like you’ll potentially also need a separate Lightning wallet (like those listed above) to link with the Bolt Card. You can transfer your Bitcoin from your Leather to a Lightning wallet via on-chain transactions to fund it.
For ease of use at the conference, Wallet of Satoshi or Breez Wallet are top choices for beginners due to their simplicity and LNURLw support.
