We present you the first written interview. And we love that the project is NFTD. Since the proposal they bring is very interesting. We are sure that it is the beginning of a big project. Although they are already doing it. You just have to read the interview.
I am Victor one of the co-founders of NF.TD, along with Steph Harris. I've been working in the identity space for quite some time and have done everything from product/community at a music tech company with digital avatars, to building & selling very large web2 social accounts, to domain name investing. I have an obsession with domain names and can talk about them for hours :) - they're often thought of as the first NFTs of the internet since they're non-fungible, able to be bought & sold, and signal parts of your identity.
NF.TD is an easy way for you to prove & share your identity. We see a few problems happening at the same time and we're building a solution:
1) Identity is very fragmented. Everyone has accounts (sometimes multiple accounts) on multiple social networks. It can be difficult to understand and trust who you're interacting with, particularly in crypto.
2) Verifications and checkmarks used to signal something of importance. In the past, every social network had its own process for granting a checkmark, but you at least had to be some sort of notable figure to receive one. Now, anybody can pay for a checkmark and the signal is relatively arbitrary and siloed away within each social app. For example - the checkmark you pay for on Twitter is meaningless on Discord or Lens.
3) Without an anchor point for verified identity, it's becoming increasingly difficult (especially with the rapid advancement of A.I.) to determine whether or not content you come across online, came from the source you think it did. We'll soon be living in a world where, unless content is cryptographically signed with a private key, it's going to be treated as inauthentic by default.
We're big fans of Jack Butcher and love the commentary on checkmarks and verifications that "Checks" has provided. Art has utility as well, it's a medium for ideas and discourse. Anyone who's questioning what a checkmark means is fighting the good fight.
We onboarded users 1 by 1 for about 9 months, we loved it because we got to speak directly with every single user. From February until last week, we were gated to the Farcaster community, and now we're officially in public beta and open to anybody who wants to mint a username. We're still a small team (only 2 of us), so we're building new features as fast as we can.
The first 2,500 usernames minted are OG usernames. Minting an OG username proves that you discovered and supported NF.TD early, and an "OG" badge on your profile reflects that. We want to reward our early supporters with OG benefits, and are still iterating on ideas.
It's currently 0.05 ETH for OG usernames, but the price is adjustable. As of right now, it's a one-time fee. There's a chance we lower the price and introduce a subscription fee of some sort (OG members will never have to pay a subscription).
We've already seen NF.TD links on Farcaster, Twitter, Discord, LinkedIn, Instagram, Lens, & many other social networks. We'll have an API that will power trusted identity across other crypto apps, games, and wallets - so your verified information on NF.TD gets automatically pulled into your other profiles. Every time you see NF.TD verified information on a profile you know that this person really is who they say they are.
Thank you so much for these questions and for the video. I hope these answers are helpful. We're still in the early stages of building and there's much more to come.
