Lets get straight to the TL;DR

The /cryptoart channel on Warpcast is now subscription-based. Over 2000 memberships were sent out. The basic "Cryptoart Social" membership NFT is 0.0003 eth (about $0.75 a month) in order to deter bots but maintain a low barrier for entry for people to cast there. There is a tier-two "Cryptoart Patron" NFT is $7.50 which comes with frequent free mints, discounts, airdrops, rev-share and early-access to new features. /cryptoart DAO Open Editions one and two collectors got free Patron memberships. Artists can apply to have their art featured by the channel.

Tier one, Cryptoart Social

The basic tier-one membership NFT is called Cryptoart Social. This gives you the ability to cast in the channel. The tier one membership will have occasional access to free and discounted mints from artists in our community.

Tier two, for the Cryptoart Patrons

Once you mint a Cryptoart Patron, membership, you'll have access to a curated stream of art. Being a Patron will give you access to exclusive free mints and airdrops from working cryptoartists from around the world.

The exact schedule might change from week to week, but Cryptoart Patrons can expect regular curation in the form of pinned channel announcements – make sure you follow the channel! Curations are not always airdropped, so keep an eye on your channel notifications for free mints and first-come-first-serve perks.

In addition to building a stunning cryptoart collection, you will also have a share of the profits – 20% of subscription fees go to Patron-tier members. That includes 20% of all tier one and two membership fees. /cryptoart is one of the top channels on the network, so this should lead to a fairly steady member re-subscription rate.

This Patron club is new uncharted territory for us, so membership perks might change within the first few months! I want to offer as much value as I can in a sustainable manner! I'm dedicated to cultivating an exciting ongoing curated gallery of offerings and excited to work with artists and other curators.

Why charge for 75¢ for basic /cryptoart access?

Prior to Warpcast's recent channels-update, anyone could cast in any channel. I was glad to see this because "more open" means any amazing artist could join Warpcast and immediately cast into /cryptoart. Unfortunately, this was also true for bots, and bad actors. Our channel became flooded with low-effort crap that made it nearly impossible to curate effectively into "main". The quality of the channel suffered as a result, so people tended to use smaller channels instead.

By charging 75¢/mo we deter bad actors & bots while making it easy for people who care about cryptoart to subscribe.

Since channels-update, /cryptoart membership has been hand curated. The quality of the channel has gone up dramatically ever since. But this has meant manually combing through hundreds of membership requests, avoiding people who seem like bots.

With this subscription-based alternative to manual-curation, our channel becomes even more open. You dont need to be chosen, Just spend the cost of a "free" mint and prove yourself in the channel. Great artists and curators get noticed. Cryptoart channel exists to help artists sell their work.

In order to increase the visibility of artists, we are moderating more attentively. People who make off-topic casts, exhibit spammy behavior, or consistently make poor quality, low effort casts will be given warnings and may eventually be removed from the channel with no refund for their membership NFT. This is to deter bad actors from minting memberships.

This channel is on a DAO-driven mission.

Our DAO mission is to empower cryptoartists by cultivating a strong collector culture, by creating opportunities for artists, and by providing the tools for artists to access those opportunities.
