Private, Powerful, Canton

TL;DR

  • Canton Network is the first public permissioned blockchain network, created by major banks and tech companies for traditional finance.

  • Next-generation infrastructure: privacy by default, atomic transactions, independent subnets, and true scalability.

  • Already used for tokenization of assets, loans, repo, gold, stablecoins, payments, corporate settlements, and auditing.

  • Banks and exchanges like Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Deutsche Börse, Nasdaq, BNP Paribas, Microsoft, Deloitte, and others are already using Canton.

  • As of March 2025, $3.6 trillion in assets have been tokenized; supported by leading venture and institutional giants.

  • Canton Coin is the network’s utility token, incentivizing participants and developers.

  • The project is a foundation for blockchain integration into global finance, with the potential to become the industry standard.

In recent years, blockchain has outgrown its status as a technology for crypto enthusiasts—it’s become a real tool for major players in traditional finance. But until now, there were too many barriers: privacy, regulations, poor scalability, and platform incompatibility...

Canton Network emerged exactly where others have stalled! The project was announced in spring 2023 by over 30 global giants: Goldman Sachs, HSBC, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Börse, Microsoft, Deloitte. By summer 2024, the Global Synchronizer and utility token Canton Coin went live—the infrastructure was in production.

The project’s mission is to create a network of networks for traditional finance: connecting banks, exchanges, and their applications into a single, yet flexible ecosystem with maximum privacy and rapid synchronization.

Canton Network Architecture

Network of Networks

Canton isn’t a single large blockchain, but a whole network of independent subnets and applications. Each participant can build their own solutions, connecting only what’s needed, with everything syncing through a global protocol. You can run atomic transactions between dozens of platforms and participants, and every subnet manages its own rules, privacy, and access.

Unlike public blockchains, no one can see anyone else’s data here—privacy and scalability are built in from the ground up.

The Daml Language

All logic in Canton is built on Daml—a powerful smart contract language with programmable privacy. Contracts are split into parts, and each participant sees only their share of the deal. Daml and Canton were developed together—this is the core of trust and transparency.

Key Network Components

  • Participant nodes: hold only the data they need.

  • Synchronization domains: secure routers for encrypted transactions.

  • Global Synchronizer: the main consensus and compatibility layer, an independent decentralized structure based at the Linux Foundation.

Canton’s Advantages for Institutions

  • Privacy and Control: All deal information is visible only to the parties involved. No more “leaky” blockchains or data breaches—only what’s allowed, and only with the right audits.

  • Interoperability: Financial platforms and banks are no longer isolated. All processes, transactions, tokens, and instruments can be instantly synchronized and exchanged without risky “bridges.”

  • Scalability: Each subnet is an independent “universe.” The more participants and applications, the stronger the network grows. Already today, Canton processes $1.5 trillion in repo per month and 100,000+ transactions per day!

How Canton Network is Used

Tokenization and New Markets

  • Repo, loans, bonds, gold: The platform already tokenizes real financial assets for 24/7 circulation. Broadridge processes trillions of dollars in repo, Versana has digitized $2 trillion in syndicated loans.

  • Physical markets and stablecoins: 15% of the US oil and gas market is processed through Canton, along with digital currencies from major corporate players.

Real Integrations

  • Complex settlements: Atomic transactions between different platforms (for example, a digital bond on one—a payment on another—all in a single transaction!).

  • Collateral automation: Integration with Nasdaq and QCP Capital.

  • Private corporate and payroll payments: Data protection even for large transfers.

  • Regulatory audit: Only the required information, only to the right people—compliance without compromise.

The Future of Canton Network

Ecosystem and Scaling

  • In the next 12–18 months—dozens of new corporate applications, coverage in Asia and the Middle East, and pilots with central banks.

  • Already $3.6 trillion in assets have been tokenized, and $135 million invested by leading financial and venture companies.

Institutional DeFi and Multi-language Support

  • The project integrates with DeFi and CBDCs, with smart contract support not only in Daml but also in Solidity, opening the door to Ethereum developers.
