We have removed BTC Prague from our catalogue of cryptocurrency events taking place in Prague on 2-11 June 2023.
We are not happy about it, but we were forced to do this under the threat of legal action against our non-profit organisation by the organiser of the event, the commercial company Twenty One Million, s.r.o.
The organisers of the event, led by Martin Kuchař, informed us that they do not want their brand "BTC Prague" to be associated or communicated in any way with the Prague Blockchain Week initiative.
The reason given by the organizers is, quote:
"It's a problem for us, our attitude, our guests, and our entire communication to be associated in any way with Blockchain activities and other projects you promote. I don't want our brand (eq. BTC Prague) to be associated in any way with other alt-coins." - Martin Kuchař
Prague Blockchain Week is a non-profit and independent initiative that aims to inform about and connect cryptocurrency events taking place in Prague in early June 2023. We are making everything as open and transparent as possible - anyone can host their own event and submit it to the #PBW23 list via our GitHub repository, as our source data is open-source.
Our goal is not to divide communities, but to unite them. We believe that together our main topics, which are freedom, decentralisation, separation of money from the state, privacy and other - can be much stronger. You can read more about our mission.
We are deeply disappointed by this decision by "Europe's largest Bitcoin event" (as they claim) to isolate its attendees, the Bitcoin community they represent, from other cryptocurrencies, any cross-chain dialogue or connection with people with similar interests.
The bitcoin community often positions itself as the protector of newcomers, but completely hiding or ignoring new technologies or knowledge about them (how to use them, how to protect yourself) goes directly against this goal. Instead of encouraging people to explore and learn - it encourages people to be intolerant and to have easy answers for everything, even if they don't know much about it (e.g. "NFTs are bad", “Ethereum is a scam” etc.).
Many of us are also bitcoiners - we represent those who don't have blinders on and know that bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency and it is not the holy grail that will solve all the world's problems. Those who believe that isolating bitcoin from others and artificially creating its scarcity (the "bitcoin only" philosophy) or hatred of everything else is not the way to make bitcoin successful.
For us, the way forward is through mutual respect, communication, knowledge sharing, and generally improving the entire free cryptocurrency market. This is what we are doing and will certainly continue to do. Join us in this endeavour.

We've removed BTC Prague from our catalogue - but since we want bitcoin content to appear during Prague Blockchain Week, we'll try to motivate other organisers to create some alternative bitcoin events in an open and friendly spirit.
We have written and published this statement to be transparent with the whole community about the situation and the reasons for the changes on our website and other reporting channels.
Thank you for your understanding and we apologise in advance to the visitors of BTC Prague, as we will have limited possibilities to inform them or provide them with additional services. For example, we are preparing the ability to create your own schedule of specific talks from all #PBW23 events.
We wish everyone a lot of peace! Don't let the maximalists ruin your day 💪
