We are thrilled to share PsyDAO’s Open Psychedelic Science ecosYstem Whitepaper, authored by Balazs Szigeti, Warren, and Chris Byrnes. The OPSY Whitepaper outlines the primary focus of PsyDAO’s scientific working group: building OPSY and demonstrating the platform's benefits by executing pilot studies.

OPSY is a privacy-preserving middleware layer designed to accelerate psychedelic citizen science through distributed ledger technology. OPSY is designed to unblock bottlenecks in recruiting research participants in naturalistic studies of psychedelics by providing token-based incentives, such as IP tokenization, and fractional governance, to participate in studies hosted by OPSY. Using such token incentivization will enable OPSY studies to recruit larger samples than what is possible in traditional psychedelic citizen science, where participants are not compensated. OPSY will aim to host studies that complement ongoing clinical trials with psychedelics with a focus on studying diverse psychedelic experiences, such as those induced by novel psychoactive drugs, measure long-term (1+ year) outcomes, and effects on underappreciated medical conditions, such as long-COVID. By democratizing psychedelic citizen science, OPSY will represent a significant leap forward in psychedelic research and bring psychedelic science onchain.

The PSY token sale will likely close next month. This is a crucial step in the DAOs journey, enabling funding of OPSY and psychedelic research projects voted on by the PsyDAO community.
