Let’s take a look at the latest Red5 Pro release following our previous blog about Red5 Pro v15.6.0. Red5 Pro v16.0.0 introduces new Stream Manager capabilities, including geographic routing, capacity expression enhancements, and an AI node type for Speech-to-Text, along with ad insertion support and fixes across mixing, packaging, SRT publishing, and DataChannel performance.

Here is what you need to know about the Red5 Pro v16.0.0 update announced on August 27, 2026. 

• Stream Manager now automatically routes incoming publishers and subscribers to the geographically nearest server region based on their IP address. This significantly reduces playback latency and stream startup times without requiring manual geo-routing configurations.

• Stream Manager capacity expressions now support two-argument min() and max() functions. Administrators can use them in capacityRankingExpression and capacityLimitExpression to combine or clamp per-node metric calculations, giving routing. 

• Extractor/Analyzer support lets Stream Manager route live-stream media to configured Analyzer services, such as speech-to-text processors, without changing the publisher or viewer workflow. For STT, the Extractor pulls audio from the active stream, sends it to an Analyzer, and routes transcript results back into the stream metadata or configured result channel for captions and downstream processing. The Extractor/Analyzer model is designed as a pluggable integration point for custom real-time media processing. Customers can build Analyzer plugins for their own models or external services, advertise the flavors they support, and let the Extractor route audio, video, or datachannel input to those processors while returning results through the configured stream metadata or result delivery path.

• Plugin to support ad insertion into active streams. The new ad insertion plugin provides managed creative pool integration for inserting video ads into live streams. It also establishes a foundation for future integrations with ad exchange platforms and services. 

• The mixer stream puller now consumes the onFI wall-clock beacon from the pulled stream.

• The testbeds have been modernized and reorganized.

• VOD manifest recording segment log is now persisted and resumed from where it left off across disconnect/reconnect cycles for a stream.

• DASH packaging a video with ABR now specifies the correct bandwidth in the manifest file.

• In Brew Mixer drag-and-drop, the dragged stream now appears in front of other streams.

• The volume indicator UI now appears properly in Brew Mixer.

• Mixer output could sometimes freeze individual streams.

• Repaired memory leak on origin when publishing SRT stream.

• In Stream Manager, restreamers no longer count as publishers when in WAIT state.

• Video Packager could occasionally show pixelation in output.

• Mixer output could occasionally pause or freeze in poor network conditions.

• DataChannel usage could degrade server performance.

Red5 Pro v16.0.0 expands Stream Manager functionality while improving the reliability of live streaming, mixing, recording, and packaging workflows. New geographic routing, capacity expression enhancements, an AI node type for Speech-to-Text, and ad insertion support give teams more options for managing and enhancing real-time streams, while the bug fixes address performance and playback issues across several core components.
