BLACK HOLE

Black holes explained.

A black hole is a region of space that has a gravitational pull so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape it. Black holes are formed when massive stars run out of fuel and collapse under the force of their own gravity.

The boundary surrounding a black hole from which nothing can escape is called the event horizon. The distance from the center of a black hole to its event horizon is known as the Schwarzschild radius.

Black holes come in different sizes, ranging from stellar black holes, which can have a mass several times that of the sun, to supermassive black holes, which can have a mass of millions or billions of times that of the sun. Supermassive black holes are thought to be at the centers of most galaxies, including our own Milky Way.

Black holes are mysterious objects because they are difficult to observe directly. However, their presence can be inferred by observing the effects of their gravity on nearby matter, such as stars or gas. Studying black holes can help us better understand the fundamental laws of physics and the behavior of matter under extreme conditions.
