One of the quiet downsides of blockchains (especially in the context of art) is how good they are at making transactions easy. This sounds like praise, and often it is framed that way. Frictionless markets. Global access. Instant liquidity. No gatekeepers. All true... And also deeply consequential in ways the NFT space hasn’t fully reckoned with. Historically, art didn’t become valuable because it was easy to buy. 𝑰𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒖𝒎𝒖𝒍...

Because to understand the Avant Gay movement, you need to start at the fracture. MiFella is where Milady’s DNA mutated into something darker and messier. It set the tone, spawned the spin-offs and gave the movement its mythos. All roads lead back here.
🐰 𝑨 𝑳𝒂𝒚𝒖𝒑
I’ve trawled cuckcore dot de, dug through abandoned Discords, semi-deleted threads, group chats and the endless sludge of derivatives.
I’ve read posts timestamped 3am from usernames now deleted. I’ve DMd participants, founders, holders, defectors, memers.
What follows isn’t “history” in the strict sense. It’s a reconstruction.
A stitching together of rumours, archives and the digital equivalent of cigarette butts on floors. A collage of pixel fragments, usernames, overlays and contradictions. Here’s what I’ve managed to piece together.
🐰 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑽𝒊𝒃𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆
Milady (and by extension, Remilia) was the launchpad. A new aesthetic, but moreso a new kind of identity performance. Cute, cursed, post-ironic. It made people feel something. Disgust, arousal, fear, belonging... it didn’t matter.
At first, Milady felt like a movement: promise, unity, coherence. But the deeper you went, the more the vibe turned ritualistic, opaque... centralised.
When the Charlotte Fang / Miya / Sonya revelations broke, the fracture was inevitable.
Some left quietly. Others built forks, parodies, remixes. One group didn’t just leave... They transmuted the chaos into something darker, rougher, more fragmented.
🐰 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒎 𝑩𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝑺𝒕𝒚𝒍𝒆
This is where MiFella enters.
Not a knockoff... more a refraction.
Not trying to rebuild Milady... trying to burn it, wear its ashes and push through the aftermath.
Where Milady projected cursed hope, MiFella answered with cuckolded despair (I'll break this down a little below as I feel this term, although apt, needs a clarification).
Where Milady masked existential horror with cuteness, MiFella made the horror the main attraction.
Milady hinted at subcultures. MiFella SCREAMED them.

“Cuckolded despair”... a potent phrase. In this context, it’s a metaphor, not a literal reference to sexual infidelity. Let’s break it down.
👉🏾 Cuckold... Powerless, humiliated, emasculated.
👉🏾 Despair... Deep hopelessness.
👉🏾 Together... Powerless hopelessness.
In the context of MiFella the sentiment is... 𝐼'𝑚 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒, 𝐼'𝑚 𝑏𝑟𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑛, 𝐼'𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑓𝑡𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟.... 𝐼'𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡... 𝐼'𝑙𝑙 𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑖𝑟 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑎 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑛.
MiFella didn’t come to save the chain. It came to wallow in what was left. To embody the cuckolded despair of post-Milady Solana... where hope is a meme and irony is the mask you wear.
Note to self...
During 💩coin coin mania I started searching for something that embodied my perception of this cycle. Nihilistic, hopeless... but owned. Not hidden, not denied.
If CryptoPunks were the embodiment of the 2021 cycle, then MiFella, IMO, feels like the perfect fit thus far.
To be clear: I’m not saying MiFella are the “CP of this cycle.” That’s a lazy comparison. There is no CP of this cycle, just as there was no MiFella of 2021.
This is something unique to the present. An evolution in culture, not a repetition.
