The Farcaster community has been actively discussing the future of decentralized applications. A thought-provoking conversation started by vitalik.eth explored the positive and less exciting aspects of the crypto space, along with broader questions about its direction. Then, the community discussed a lot about the Opensea notice from the SEC sparkling an intense debate over the NFT technology and art.
OpenSea has received a Wells notice from the SEC threatening to sue us because they believe NFTs on our platform are securities. We're shocked the SEC would make such a sweeping move against creators and artists. But we're ready to stand up and fight. This is a move into uncharted territory. By targeting NFTs, the SEC would stifle innovation on an even broader scale: hundreds of thousands of online artists and creatives are at risk, and many do not have the resources to defend themselves. In addition to standing our own ground, we're pledging $5M to help cover legal fees for NFT creators and devs that receive a Wells notice. Every creator, big or small, should be able to innovate without fear. I hope the SEC will come to its senses sooner rather than later, and that they'll listen with an open mind. Until then, we'll stand up and fight for our industry. Onwards 🌊⛵️

Farcaster Protocol and Client Updates
The Farcaster protocol and its associated clients continue to innovate with new features. Haole share a new version of the Recaster app implementing the newly introduced block feature of the protocol. It allows anyone to see another member block list.

The warpcast team created a two sided incentive to motivate the community, on one hand a daily 5 usdc reward has been initiated for top 100 casters.
Warpcast is giving out $5 each day to the top 100 casters. Rewards are given based on the amount of engagement your casts get divided by the number of active followers you have. On the other hand, small accounts get an opportunity to get boosted depending on their content. However, much questions have been raised on this last selection method.

Finally, woj.eth shared an UX improvement version of the Supercast app.
new supercast release is live no new features, just ux improvements as supercast wallet is coming closer, i want to focus more on mobile ux so for this release i made sure you can properly navigate the feed, properly display the embed, properly interact with frames etc not a huge release but very satisfying since losing position in feed was #1 bug report since the beginning of supercast now i will be able to go through all the notifications and reply on supercast mobile as well more improvements and features coming next week, and the degen airdrop is coming tomorrow!

mazmhussain definitely reached a new place in the space by being one of the recipient of the warpacast reward with his thoughtfull content.
The ChatGPT bot responses on this site are very convincing. Some of these bots genuinely have insightful comments I not only wind up responding to but actually agree with and that add something meaningful to the conversation. Kind of dark vision of the future.
Builders building
cassie shared a detailed explanation on relationship with investors and the change initiated toward them, it raise a lot of reactions an debate on it.
This week, Q Inc has changed course with speaking with investors. Given I receive a lot of cold opens from investors on Farcaster, I would like to share that change with everyone publicly, and why. Moving forward, we refuse to even begin conversations with funds who have ever (or intend to) engaged in token warrants. It is clear our values and beliefs are diametrically opposed, and this is a far easier filter to save ourselves the time. It has been a long path to fundraising principally because we are operating from a perspective that as a company collaborating on a fair launched project, we can not and will not do token warrants. Despite being upfront about this, this topic has resulted in a lot of time wasted in talking with crypto funds, because they do not believe equity has a path to return for them, and ultimately decline. This is very telling because if they don't believe the company will be successful what use are the tokens, unless...?

WHY WE BUILT VIEW.ART view.art is created by the team behind /bright-moments, an onchain art collective that works with generative & AI artists to create real-world experiences of their works. Starting in 2021, we began writing software to support our growing number of shows in Venice Beach. As the industry grew, our demands for the viewing experience did too. If people were going to take onchain art seriously, it needed to be showcased with the same care that we have come to expect from museums. This led us to build systems that enabled people to interact with the art, something missing from traditional galleries. Instead of coming to a show to see work that had already been created, people attended our events to help create the art themselves via live minting. For the first time, we're making the same technology used to power our exhibitions available to the public. We believe that a tool like view.art is necessary to appreciate the onchain art that is being created every day.
