Nvidia reportedly agreed to buy open source AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, putting one of the most widely used platforms for sharing and working with open-source AI models under Nvidia's ownership. The deal lands a day after Nvidia's earnings beat, and it pushes the chipmaker deep into the software layer where developers actually build.
Here's why the price raises eyebrows. At around 86x Hugging Face's annualized revenue of $150 million, Nvidia would be paying a premium for the platform's strategic position and existing relationships.
This wouldn't be Nvidia's first run-in with Hugging Face — it took part in a $235 million funding round in 2023, when the platform's valuation was around $4.5 billion. That's nearly triple in under three years.
If you build with open models, this touches your stack directly. Regulators might question whether competing chipmakers and cloud providers get put at a disadvantage, particularly if Nvidia imposes hardware and software restrictions on the platform after a takeover. Apple announced the M6 Mac mini and M5 Ultra Mac Studio, with pre-orders open and machines arriving September 22.
Apple built the M6 on a 2-nanometer process, a first for the company. The newest silicon Apple makes now sits in its cheapest desktop.
The pitch is running AI models on your desk instead of a data center. Apple says the M6 Mac mini does LLM prompt processing up to 13.5x faster than a 2020 M1 mini, and 4.8x faster than the M4 it replaces. The Mac Studio goes further: up to 512GB of unified memory served by 1.2TB/s of bandwidth, which Apple says is 50 percent higher than the M3 Ultra.
The catch is price. The Mac mini now starts at $899, $100 more than before, while the Mac Studio starts at $2,499 and the M5 Ultra config runs at least $5,499.

A Russian-speaking affiliate of the Aurora ransomware operation compromised more than 20 organizations across nine countries between April and July 2026, using the AI coding assistant Cursor to plan intrusion activity and Active Directory escalation. A misconfigured server exposed the whole workflow.
The significance isn't simply that an attacker used AI to generate code — the recovered conversations show AI being used as an active planning tool during real-world attacks, helping the operator reason through pathways to compromise systems.
The operator achieved domain-level or interactive access in at least 17 environments, and four victims were later named on Aurora's public leak site.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Ads in India, letting logged-in adults on the Free and Go tiers see ads, while Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education subscribers stay ad-free.
ChatGPT had 330 million unique monthly users in India in May 2026, up from 297 million in December 2025.
The timing isn't accidental. The rollout comes as OpenAI pushes to diversify revenue ahead of a planned IPO.
The ad pilot began in the US in February, crossed the $100 million annualized revenue mark within six weeks, then expanded across dozens of countries.

The next flight of SpaceX's Starship is now unlikely to attempt catching the vehicle's upper stage back at the launch site, as the launch slips into September.
Musk said on the August 4 earnings call that the flight would be Starship's first mission to orbit, deploying Starlink satellites to an operational orbit, with a first attempt to catch the ship at Starbase.
Flight 14 is expected to be the first orbital flight of Starship, flying the new Super Heavy v3 configuration from Starbase, Texas. The tower catch of the upper stage would be a first — SpaceX has only caught the larger booster so far.
If you track the Artemis Moon timeline, this flight matters. A working orbital catch is the step that makes Starship cheap enough to reuse fast.
