Our global communication system for the exchange of information is decisively supported, formulated, ordered, visualised and made possible in intercultural exchange by our typography. Typeface and legibility are fundamental parameters of the quality of information preservation, communication and interaction systems. Surfaces that provide information for people are still composed of a mix of graphic symbols, pictorial and illustrative elements, and even typographic elements.

The design of a visual and functional overall design of the elements is usually linked to a situational application, which is partly speculative, or to a function to be created and elaborated for this purpose. The parts of the system to be designed largely involve the interaction of the user only through touch, voice input or the need for information and can include this in the design considerations.

If we think of the whole human being as a multi-sensory emphatic being and relate this to the complexity of his personality and character with all his experiences and assumptions, information personalisation is a big step in human-machine interaction. Let us take as a basis one of the most widely used educational information systems: The reading book, with its clear interface mostly created purely from typography.

What would it be like if we developed a typographic format that uses sensors in our devices to classify the emotional and emphatic situation of the reader while reading, and thus correlates the typeface style to the dramaturgical scenery of the text while the user is actively reading? Typography adapts the typeface design in the typeface used. When the personally individual perception and interpretation of the text are reflected in the formal design of the typeface, supports it, relates it in the context of what is formulated, modulates it. When the typeface supports dramatic scenes in its form, expands affectionate stories. A typeface that actively modulates itself to the content, behaving variably.

Typeography is an extended form of typography that integrates the perception and sensation facets of the reader into the typeface and type design. A flowing font modulation: A Open Mind Font typeface contains a designed system that includes various classification patterns to provide variable typeface design variations. For example, a so-called Open Mind Font (.omf) contains a fully comprehensive character set, but with font design variations for terms such as "exciting", "silent", "quiet", "incomprehensible", "exciting", "informative", "traditional", "dreamy", "in love" and many more, explicitly designed for these cases.

If designers (typeographers) use such an Open Mind font in the design of an interface, this is created in a basic layout with the necessary font styles. However, if a user actively reads the text, the system activates the OMF and unfolds the live adaptation in active modulation per line during the reading flow. In doing so, the system is also able to learn whether or not a situational presentation of the font in an "exciting" variation in an exciting part of the user's text has deepened the reading experience. It is thus able to adapt further to provide ever more precise perceptual support and information communication in an extended interaction between surface and human during reading.

In the use of a medium such as a book with literary texts, OMF fonts have the function of reader-based archiving. Later owners/readers of the book can access the fine modulation of a previous reader (all her reactions and scenic sensations) via archive. The book can thus present the content to a new reader in the same way as a previous reader personalised it with their sensation. All emphatic, emotional reader reactions are thus transported via the purely form-specific typography with a chosen font. Combinations of reading experiences of previous and current readers are also conceivable. Imagine reading a book that was once read by several members of a family generation. The typeography makes it possible to shape the book again in its visual design and typesetting with one's impressions but based on the impressions of the previous readers.

Unser globales Kommunikationssystem zum Austausch von Informationen wird maßgeblich durch unsere Typografie gestützt, formuliert, geordnet, visualisiert und in interkulturellem Austausch möglich. Schrift und Lesbarkeit sind grundlegende Parameter der Qualität von Informationskonserven, -kommunikation wie Paten der Interaktionssysteme. Oberflächen, welche Informationen für den Menschen bereitstellen, werden bis heute aus einem Mix an grafischen Symbolen, bildnerischen wie illustrativen Elementen und eben schriftgestalterischen Anteilen zusammengesetzt.

Die Ausgestaltung zu einer visuellen wie funktionalen Gesamtstimmung der Anteile wird meist auf eine situative Anwendung, die teilweise spekulativ ist, beziehungsweise eine herzustellende Funktion geknüpft und dafür ausgearbeitet. Dabei beziehen die Anteile des zu gestaltenden Systems die Interaktion des Nutzers zum großen Teil nur durch seine Berührung, Spracheingabe oder das Bedürfnis nach Informationen ein und sind in der Lage dies mit in die Überlegung zur Ausgestaltung aufzunehmen.

Denken wir an den gesamten Menschen, als multisensorisches,  emphatisches Wesen und beziehen dies zur Vielschichtigkeit seiner Persönlichkeit und Charakters, mit all seinen Erfahrungen und Vermutungen ist die Informationspersonalisierung ein großer Schritt in der Mensch-Maschine Interaktion. Nehmen wir zur Grundlage eines der am weit verbreitetsten bildenden Informationssysteme: Das Lesebuch, mit seinem klaren und rein aus Typografie erzeugten Interface.

Wie wäre es, wenn wir ein typografisches Format entwickeln, welches während des Lesens die emotionale und emphatische Situation der Leserin mit Sensoren klassifiziert und damit den Schriftduktus während des aktiven Lesens der dramaturgischen Szenerie des Textes korreliert und im Schriftbild den Schriftentwurf anpasst. Wenn die persönlich individuelle Wahrnehmung und Interpretation des Textes sich in der Formensprache der Schriftart abbildet, diese unterstützt, im Kontext des Formulierten bezieht, moduliert. Wenn die Schriftart in ihrer Form dramatische Szenen unterstützt, liebevolle Geschichten erweitert. Eine sich aktiv auf den Inhalt modulierende, variabel verhaltende Schrift.

Typeography stellt eine erweiterte Form der Typografie dar, welche die Wahrnehmungs- und Empfindungsfacetten des Betrachters mit in den Schriftduktus und Schriftentwurf integriert. Dabei beinhaltet ein sogenannter Open Mind Font Schriftsatz ein gestaltetes System, welches verschiedene Klassifikationsmuster beinhaltet, um variable Schriftvariationen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Beispielsweise kann eine sogenannte Open Mind Schriftart (.omf) einen voll umfassenden Zeichensatz enthalten, welcher aber Gestaltungsvariationen der Schrift für Begriffe wie »aufregend«, »still«, »leise«, »unverständlich«, »spannend«, »informativ«, »traditionell«, »tatträumerisch«, »verliebt« und viele weitere enthält, die explizit für diese Fälle gestaltet wurden.

Nutzen Designer (Typeographen) eine solche Open Mind Schriftart in der Gestaltung einer Oberfläche, wird dies in einem Basislayout mit den dafür notwendigen Schriftschnitten erzeugt.  Liest jedoch eine Nutzerin den Text aktiv, aktiviert das System die OMF und entfaltet die live Anpassung in aktiver Modulation pro Zeile während des Leseflusses. Dabei ist das System auch in der Lage zu lernen, ob eine situative Darstellung der Schrift in einer »spannenden« Variation in einem spannenden Teil des Textes der Nutzerin das Leseerlebnis vertieft hat oder nicht. Es ist damit in der Lage, sich weiter anzupassen und damit immer präzisere Wahrnehmungsunterstützung und Informationskommunikation in einer erweiterten Interaktion zwischen Oberfläche und Mensch während des Lesens anzubieten.

Die OMF Schriftarten besitzen in der Verwendung eines Mediums wie zum Beispiel Buch mit literarischen Texten die Funktion der leserbasierten Archivierung. Spätere Besitzer/Leserinnen des Buches können auf die Feinmodulation einer vorherigen Leserin (ihren ganzen Reaktionen und szenischen Empfindungen) per Archiv zurückgreifen. Das Buch kann damit den Inhalt für einen neuen Leser so darstellen, wie es ein vorheriger Leser mit seiner Empfindung personalisiert hat. Alle emphatischen, emotionalen Leserreaktionen werden damit über die rein formspezifische Typeografie mit gewählter Schriftart transportiert. Auch Kombinationen aus Leseerfahrungen früherer und aktueller Leserinnen sind denkbar. Stellen Sie sich vor, Sie lesen ein Buch, welches einmal durch eine Familiengeneration gelesen wurde. Die Typeografie ermöglicht es, das Buch, mit eigenen Eindrücken, aber auf Basis der Eindrücke der vorgegangenen Leserinnen erneut in seiner Typeografie auszugestalten.
