Jan 15th UPDATE: I had to deploy several fixes to the new game contract. Most of them were minor, but given that we're removing governance I think its really important to get it right. The links below have all been updated accordingly. Given the DAO requires a minimum of 3 day voting period for proposals, game 2 can't be funded with the Uniswap fees until saturday. The new game is scheduled to start at 7pm UTC on Saturday, Jan 18th.

While the reaction has been fantastic, it quickly became clear to me that the design has some shortcomings:

1. The fee mechanism is too volatile.

2. Rounds last too long.

3. The Uniswap fees aren't being utilized (currently over 20m ∞ and 4 WETH).

4. DAO governance adds unnecessary complexity

In full disclosure, I've been running a bot to mitigate the fee volatility [EDIT: my bot won round 3 shortly after this was published and I returned the prize to the game 🙃]. But I've also been working on a longterm solution to all of the above. I'm happy to announce its ready. Two contracts have been deployed: InfiniteGame2, and InfiniteTreasuryManager.

Readers of Finite and Infinite Games know all rules of an infinite game can and should be rewritten if doing so enables a game to continue. In my view, these new contracts are necessary to achieve that goal. Adopting them will require a DAO vote, after which the DAO will no longer be needed. I can pass the proposal with my voting power, but I'll wait to see if other game players pass it without me.

• The fee starts at 100 ∞ and increases 5% every play. It resets back to 100 when a round ends. This creates a more predictable fee and its exponential growth ensures each round will last less than two weeks.

• The fee parameters and winner's share of the prize pool can be changed by the contract's owner, but only between rounds.

• The countdown always resets to one hour rather than reducing by a second each subsequent play.

• The prize pool of ∞ tokens will be supplemented by Uniswap pool fees and every player will be able to claim WETH fees (see next section). This provides an incentive to play in addition to the possibility of winning the round.

Note: the biggest ∞ uniswap liquidity position is owned by InfiniteTreasury. Its design ensures the position can ever being closed or transferred.

• InfiniteTreasuryManager will become the new owner of the treasury and will permissionlessly route infinite (∞) token and WETH fees collected from the Uniswap pool.

• Anyone can call collectAndDistribute, which immediately sends the collected ∞ to InfiniteGame2, and holds the WETH for players to withdraw proportionate to how much they've paid to play the game. The first distribution will go to the V1 game's players, and all subsequent distributions will go to InfiniteGame2 players.

• No privileged access or control, which enables governance-free treasury distribution.

InfiniteTreasury has a time lock that lasts until January 15th. InfiniteGame2 has been scheduled to start then. In the meantime, I've donated some of my vesting share of the token supply to the current game. After the new game has started, the old one will continue but its prize pool will likely dwindle to nothing.

For any developer who wants to verify the security of the new contracts, here are the tests.
