Today’s lesson comes from a friend and mentor, Tim Martinez, whose book Do Good Work landed in my hands again this morning—and reminded me why communication isn't just a skill, it's a responsibility.
This chapter on “Communication Mastery” hit. Hard. It’s not about being the loudest in the room or stacking credentials—it’s about the ability to simplify the complex, paint a pain-free vision of the future, and move people with clarity and conviction. That’s how you guide, not just talk.
There’s a line that stuck with me: “If you know the path to a brighter future for your client, you have a duty to guide them toward it, rather than letting them cling to outdated approaches.” It’s a callout to every builder, every artist, every founder—if you're sitting on insight, don’t hoard it. Communicate it.
This hits home for everything we do in the ZAO. Whether it’s building for the culture, leading a Fractal, or putting a new artist on chain, our value doesn’t end at what we know. It lives in what we can communicate—clearly, courageously, and in service of the people we’re trying to help.
