gm! Welcome to 03. We keep it short and sweet because we know how busy community builders like you are. Don't be shy, share the newsletter with someone else who'll like the content.
Quick intro: TogetherCrew is a web3 native community management tool that simplifies the life of community managers through non-vanity metrics and AI. With our app, you can save 10 hours per week.
We will be launching more contests and quests with the goal to elevate the voices and experiences of community builders. If you like to take part, fill out this form.
KarimaDigital wrote a really deep dive on how Umoji tackled community growth without using the tried and over-relied method of airdrops. The focus was quests, but not just your typical follow, retweet and like for points quests. Quests matched the culture and Story of Umoji. And yes, you could win money. This is what Karima says on this topic:
Time vs Money: Results require significant time or money. Given our timeline constraints, Umoja chose to invest money in the community to accelerate growth. This was a tricky decision, which the hardest part of it is that if you pour money on the front end, you need to put in the quality time on the back end or you lose your audience.
Worth the read. Don’t rely on Grok to summarize it. If you are short on time, check the headings and focus on what’s relevant to you.
ahhhhhhh so much. Internally we chatted if and how to sequence the announcements or just do a big dump. We decided to single out the big thing and batch the other releases: Telegram integration, Hivemind questions not private anymore, Discourse analytics, Discourse community moderation, releasing knowledge hub, reputation nft. I think that was it.
Can you guess what the big one is? If you guess correctly (tag me on any socials) I'll d drop the commemorative launch NFT into your wallet.
At the end of November we had a massive space on events, IRL and URL, in web3, with participants from our web3 events contest. A lot of wisdom was shared. To not keep you waiting too long, here’s the tldr:
events should be fun.
events should be easy to attend.
events should benefit the local community.
events should build relationships.
events should grow people.
events aren’t one-off time blocks, but a series of mini-events wrapped into a bigger event. Keep an eye on those mini-events and redirect the vibe if it feels off.
Speakers: Links (BCard), Gabrielle (Modular Crypto), Daveed (local community garden), Stefen (Oasisonchain), Chicago (local crypto meetups), Coop (LinksDAO), borrowlucid (Chones)
Keen to meet some of those people? Check out Oasis Onchain end of January in the Bahamas or Modular Crypto’s Carnival edition
AI -generated summary:
Consistency and Community Building: Emphasizing consistent event scheduling (such as regular monthly meetups) is crucial for community building. It makes it easier for members to integrate these events into their schedules and fosters a sense of continuity and reliability within the community.
Focus on Connection-Fostering Activities: Events should be designed to foster connections between participants. This can be achieved through shared activities such as meals, games, or casual social interactions. The emphasis is on creating an environment where attendees can communicate meaningfully and engage with each other.
Local and Cultural Elements: Incorporating local or cultural elements into events, such as serving local food or organizing culturally specific activities, can enhance the experience for attendees and provide a deeper connection to the location of the event.
Adaptability and Response to Vibes: Event hosts need to be adaptable and prepared to change the event’s pace or activities if the vibe feels off. This includes understanding why the vibe might be off (e.g., awkwardness, isolation) and making adjustments, whether through introducing new activities, mixing up seating arrangements, or directly engaging attendees.
Role of Brands and Sponsorship in Events: There should be a balance between meeting the interests of a brand or sponsor and ensuring the event remains beneficial and enjoyable for the community. The most successful events are those where the brand's involvement enhances the participants' experience without dominating it.
