What do you know about crypto coins? No, not the big ones that are in the news always, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, but the smaller ones, the meme coins. They have been around for a while now, quite long, actually, in blockchain time. But they have been getting a new boost this year. For several reasons. Last year, you still needed to be knowledgeable about creating smart contracts, so you could create an ERC-20 on Ethereum-based blockchains, or whatever it is on Solana and ohter chains. Nowadays, it's as easy as sending a tweet-like social media message on Farcaster, or an Instagram-like post on Zora. Or. Or. Or. In short, it is easy.
Most of them are still treated like financial assets, for investors with a big taste for big risk. For investors who like to speculate. For investors who like to lose money in the casino.
But there is an undercurrent exploring how coins like that can benefit artists. It starts with simple market mechanics: I launch a coin, you buy it, the value of the supply I hold increases, I make money. Simple mechanics, but they do not really work if you're not a big-name artist. So, we need to find other mechanics. To do so, we need to explore. And that's what I've been doing with the coins I've launched.
The poem above names some of the coins I've created. With all of them, I'm running a different experiment. In my own slow pace. Just to have some fun while figuring out what kind of things work. One coin is the art itself, another serves as a community coin. There's one that's a tongue-in-cheek joke and one that's a kind of point-like reward coin.
I am going to revive my onchain poet's guide to the metaverse in the coming weeks to tell you a bit about each of these experiments. I hope it helps you in finding a way to make this work for you. Or at least to think about it.
Have you launced a memecoin yet?
Like this newsletter? You can support me so I can make more of it. Obviously, this post is "coined" as a creator coin. You can support me by clicking on the support butting on the top of this post and buy some of this content coin. You never know, if enough people do it, you might even create generational wealth.
You can also buy me coffee, or commit to a monthly supply of a couple of coffees through my hypersub. A kind of Patreon, but of the crypto-kind.
There's poetry in people, and the Los Fomos ladies Pauline and Tako are very good in bringing it out. Enjoy one of their episodes:
