Behind the fence
he watches us,
wanting us to
come and greet him -
lonely wolf,
scary and gentle giant.
There's a mansion overlooking the park. A historic villa with an enormous garden. In it, a gentle giant. A beautiful wolf dog. He's watching the park goers, sometimes jealous of the other dogs playing freely in the park. Many park-regulars know his name, and greet him on the other side of the fence. So do I. Always spending a bit of time with him. Cuddling him. He seems to be happy with the attention. Needing it, probably.
But he's a bit dangerous, too. I don't think he's mean, but he's big and strong. And he plays like a pup: uncontrolled. So, that will hurt the other dogs. Sometimes he escapes the garden, when his owner is not careful enough. That does sometimes gives some issues.
I've not experienced that. For me, the lone wolf is my friend. When I pass, he calls me. Begging for a bit of attention. And some cuddles.

The wolf is back in The Netherlands. And that's both beautiful as difficult. We are no longer used to live alongside this predator, and accidents happen. On the other hand, it's a promising sign of how we actually can, if we want to, undo some of the damage we have done to our planet.
