Nobody talks about Europe when it comes to AI. They're all looking at Silicon Valley and Beijing. But while the hype was elsewhere, three German automakers quietly built something serious. Here's what's actually happening ✍🏽
TDLR:
Volkswagen: AI at Scale 🏭
BMW: Robots on the Factory Floor
Mercedes: AI From Factory to Dashboard
The Suppliers Nobody Mentions 🔧
The Bro's Take 🤔

Volkswagen is not running pilots. It's running infrastructure.
Over 1,200 AI applications active across the group. €1 billion committed by 2030. €4 billion in expected savings. Development cycles cut by a year.
The backbone is its Digital Production Platform, a factory cloud deployed globally with AWS.
On top of that, a Large Industry Model trained on data from multiple suppliers. This is core operating infrastructure, not a feature.
BMW is the only European OEM running humanoid robots in active production.
After a successful US pilot, it launched a second deployment at its Leipzig plant in Germany.
Full pilot phase starts summer 2026, focused on high-voltage battery assembly. A dedicated Centre of Competence for Physical AI handles how these deployments scale globally.
Systematic, not experimental.
Mercedes is doing both simultaneously.
The new CLA runs MB.OS on NVIDIA's full-stack software, with Microsoft and Google AI in the infotainment system.
The car becomes a software-defined platform, updatable over time. On the factory side, digital twins and generative AI are deployed at scale.
Volkswagen and BMW each lead in one dimension. Mercedes is competitive in both.
The OEMs get the headlines. The suppliers do the foundational work.
Bosch runs AI-driven cockpit systems, motion control, and by-wire technologies across multiple manufacturers.
ZF is working with Qualcomm on scalable ADAS solutions across vehicle platforms.
If you want to understand who's building the foundations, start her
Building something onchain?
Let’s talk. TMB Labs is now offering full-stack growth support for blockchain, AI and social app projects.
Partnerships, strategy, content, socials, and more 👇🏽
There's no single leader. That's the honest answer.
Volkswagen leads in scale. BMW leads in physical AI. Mercedes leads in integrating AI across product and production together.
The real story is not who's winning. It's that Europe is moving faster on automotive AI than most people realise. The question is whether anyone outside the industry is paying attention.
And that's it for today! Thanks for reading ♥️
