Since the founding of the Uniswap Foundation in August 2022, the Grants team has awarded 33 grants via two waves of grants totaling ~$2.7M. As we designed our funding strategy for 2023 and beyond, we initially looked to our grant recipients for input. We shared a survey with previous grantees and received 27 responses. Shields is also a success case for UGP (now part of the UF), as it evolved into a more expansive open-source project which anyone can leverage in ...

Protocol Fee Switch Education & Research

Over the past few months, there has been ample discussion about the protocol fee switch within the Uniswap community. Many of these discussions were prompted by high engagement forum posts and Temperature and Consensus Checks on the fee switch posted over the summer. In response, the UF has taken steps to support and shine a light on work being done to ensure all delegates are able to make an informed vote when the time comes (see @lay2000lbs’s update on the governance vote here). In that spi...

Uniswap Protocol Fee Switch: Technical Breakdown

This past summer, a proposal was kicked off in Uniswap governance to assess whether and how to turn on the protocol fee switch. Because Avantgarde is a Uniswap delegate, I followed the conversation and debate as it evolved. As I considered how we should vote, I realized that there was not much information available on what “turning on the fee switch” actually meant from a technical perspective. I didn’t feel comfortable evaluating the downstream effects of turning on the fee switch with incom...

FAQ on Uniswap v3’s Business Source License

When Uniswap v3 was deployed in May 2021, it was done under a Business Source License 1.1 (BSL). The BSL is an important topic within Uniswap governance, relevant to discussions of cross-chain deployments and other production uses of BSL-protected v3 code. In order to provide more information about the BSL, what it means for those looking to use v3 code and libraries, and how to receive an exemption to the BSL, the Uniswap Foundation has compiled this FAQ. What is the Business Source License ...
