White Hearts is an NFT Collection + Visual Novel released by Mezzanotte NFT. It’s our second collection, the first being Dropicall. White Hearts is illustrated by Merukuro, a female illustrator from Paris. A massive Japanese 80’s idol music fan; Merukuro’s ‘pure hearted’ aesthetic is translated through her drawings. White Hearts is filled with references to famous anime, cosplay aesthetics, and Japanese light novels such as Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, the Yuri (genre), Haruhi Suzumiya, Chobits etc. There are other references as well like Rynn Jacob’s (Jodie Foster) outfit from the 70’s film ‘The Little Girl Who Live Down the Lane’. The aesthetic is all combined by a blank stare from the characters. The White Heart girls are disassociating while being innocent and seductive at the same time.
White Hearts also take inspiration from MDD Dolls (Mini Dolfie Dream Dolls). These are dolls with a base you cannot change but you can change the eyes, make up, hair and outfits. Similarly with White Hearts one trait each character has is the base. Which is essentially an empty face that you layer the rest of the traits onto.
