Subject: Flying Lotus get’s “cancelled” for AI visual promo I know everyone’s tapped into different communities / ecosystems / genres pertaining to music so I have to assume, my Twitter following / for you isn’t identical but… The flying lotus adjacent respect legends, peers & fanbase is my ecosystem. Basically anything instrumental, jazz, boombap, lofi … decades deep of embedded connects. How do I feel about FlyLo or any creator using A.I. for that matter? Literally no strong feelings good or bad. Any negative feelings I have for A.I. only exist at scale & in combination with algorithmic discovery and reach. Just another tool. Not easy to articulate this in a single cast but man…. The last 48 hours, I’ve witnessed hundreds of equally talented artists, who cherish Flying Lotus . Turn on him viciously in an instant.. over just visuals…. We aren’t talking about some Timbaland level disconnect…. Not many will see this cast, more want read it all, but it felt important to document on Farcaster being the builder / tech adjacent out number the creatives. I know first hand how going against the vocal majority regardless of intention or context with tech can undo decades of work and community building.. because touching blockchain as an artist came with a heavy price.. Outside of tech twitter & crypto, most people are very passionate about there distrust and hatred for crypto, AI, Vibecoding etc.. And I know Art & Music NFT narrative didn’t last, and now most platforms are gone or will be, So the “I told you so” from our familiar ecosystems is strong. Narratives change, hype dies & new experimental tech follows. The risk for artists experimenting and being early adopters isn’t a big deal without an existing fanbase or time weathered community. I just hope the ones encouraging artists have their finger on the pulse of creativity community sentiments (outside of the intersection of culture and tech) Crazy times, never thought I’d see so much backlash, so quickly for an artist that the people turning on held in such high esteem.
