Last year my best friend I’ve known since 1984 sent me a bunch of audio skits he created.
First thing of note, they were next level good, they were created in the style of comedic radio ads, but the writing, the editing, sound fx, mixing sounded super official. Second important context, He apparently has been making these for decades to place on custom mix CDs he would make for co-workers and friends.
Why is any of this important? Because this was literally the first time, my dearest & oldest friend shared the fact he had an obscure side hobby of arranging audio with his damn best friend who wrote a large chunk of their first album in his childhood bedroom hahah.
I was flabbergasted. How did something he knew was a shared interest between us stay hidden for so long. So I asked what the hell he was using to create these skits, the layering and mixing etc. apparently he’s been using Audacity. So I scolded him & told him next time he comes over I’m going to show him what I use since now I know he will actually understand a DAW on a functional level.
So sometime last year he came over, and the best way to show someone how Over powered Ableton Live is, is to literally speedrun created a beat from scratch. Just to show how useful it could be for him opposed to using Audacity.
Per usual, I had the observer choose the sample.
So he did, & within 10 minutes I had a beat, with two different change ups, manipulating & microchopping the sample so it’s no longer recognizable.
He said, “this looks really dope, but I’ll probably just stick with Audacity”
Hahaha.
I completely forgot about the beat, & stumbled on the project file a few days ago. I began playing & adding synths & instruments, then got sidetracked updating LinkedIn…
Sitting up at the desk comes at a cost….
So this poorly captured video in the moment was taken sideways at ground level from the Yoga mat.
