I remember a time in childhood when I spent most of my days outside in the yard playing with friends. I rarely went home, only when I was very hungry or the weather turned terrible. Television got little of my attention, and even now I relegate it to a secondary role. The internet was nowhere near as developed as it is today. Compared to what we have now, it was closer to a simple stream than a global network.
Not many programs truly interested me, but there was one that always pulled me straight to the screen. It was called “The Undersea World of Jacques-Yves Cousteau.” For an hour of airtime, I would set off to explore new islands and ocean depths together with the crew of the Calypso. I was often amazed by the strange sea creatures they encountered, with such unusual shapes that they seemed to come from another planet.
The environmental missions he organized revealed to me how deeply interconnected the world is.
Oceanography in every home. That is how I would sum it up.
