What will people think?
Lots of generations grew up with this question.
Almost like a warning.
Almost like a rule.
Think about what others will say.
Listen to their opinions.
Adjust.
Don’t stand out too much.
Don’t disappoint.
And slowly, their voices became louder than our own.
We learned to measure our choices
through someone else’s viewpoint.
We learned to hesitate.
To shrink.
To doubt ourselves.
Because what will people think?
But here’s the truth I discover later -
people always think something.
No matter what you choose.
No matter how carefully you live.
They see a fragment.
They don’t see your sleepless nights.
Your quiet battles.
Your healing.
Your courage.
Yes, someone’s opinion can be precious.
But so is yours.
And the most important one is the one you have about your own life.
You are allowed to choose yourself.
Your desires.
Your timing.
Your path.
Not selfish.
Not rebellious.
Just aware.
Sometimes maturity is simply to say:
“Opinion? A precious one? No, thanks! I’ve got mine.”
