This is the first time I’m so close to a doomerism cycle.
I’ve always witnessed it from the sidelines as a third/fourth hand consumer. And most times I’ve been a doomer from the sidelines not actually using the product or directly benefiting from the use of the tool - the tool the doomer groups are talking about.
What’s come clear to me is how much intellectuals or in general just very smart people get wrong in the midst of a massive innovative cycle that causes them to be doomers
I believe it’s true, AI has the potential to replace intelligence in a large way, but I believe that to also have been the case for electricity, the wheel, cars, calculators, I would even say language to a large extent.
Why do such intellects engage and such lopsided arguments.
At worst case, AI won’t be a catastrophic replacement of humanity but a multi-decade war that started from the dawn of the internet.
First it was human to human cyberwar, now it’ll be human to machine cyber wars.
But humans aren’t going anywhere. Unless of course, the polar shifts cause a new great flood.
Reminder that intellects are very often exaggerated in their expertise and wrong.
