If only we had the data to test this hypothesis:
a massive share of so-called ‘viral’ content only went viral due to a preexisting relationship with a major account — either personal, professional, or financial (usually undisclosed).
We will never have the full set of unaltered raw data to test it either.
Let’s be honest: random no-name accounts don’t just get algorithmically blessed out of nowhere. They get plugged by someone for a reason.
