[Google Play Store may block unregistered crypto apps in South Korea from Jan. 28]
Google Play may begin limiting access to crypto-related apps in South Korea starting January 28 if they are not properly registered with local authorities. Under the proposed policy, cryptocurrency exchanges and custodial wallet apps must show that they have filed a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) declaration with the Financial Intelligence Unit, which operates under the Financial Services Commission. Apps that fail to meet these local compliance requirements risk being removed from the South Korean Play Store. Google noted that self-custody (non-custodial) wallets will not be affected, though it is still uncertain whether proof of filing alone is sufficient or if full regulatory approval will be required.
