In 2024, several comets will be at perihelion and reach maximum brightness. Some of them can probably be observed with binoculars or even with the naked eye! Kushida Perihelion: January 25, 2024 (magnitude 8.5) Closest approach to Earth: December 12, 2023 (magnitude 15.0) Where to watch: Both hemispheres Visibility Forecast: Although many visibility forecasts for this comet are unfavorable, some sources say it will be visible with medium-sized binoculars. Description: 144P/Kushida is a short-period comet discovered on January 8, 1994 by astronomer Yoshio Kushida at the Yatsugatake Observatory in Japan. Its orbital period (about 7.6 years) is quite short compared to many other comets.
