A characteristic feature of the blues is the use of the blues scale, which includes lowered III, V and VII degrees in the natural major scale (the so-called “blues notes”). Often music is built on a “response-response” structure, expressed both in the lyrical content of the composition and in the musical content, often built on a dialogue between instruments.
