Most of the big games today are closed economies (centralized). Fortnite and League of Legends only allow users to purchase digital skins, characters and items from the company store. Users cannot freely trade in game digital currency or digital assets.
One exception is Roblox, which allows users to develop games in its metaworld and earn money from other players who interact with them, Roblox is currently worth $20 billion.
By making games an open economic platform, games can become larger and more durable. Players will invest more in their digital gaming property because they know it's "real." Third-party companies can build on top of these game assets to access their player base.
Why do these all need blockchain? A game can create an open economic platform that makes all their assets tradable and transferable through an open API and encourages building on top of that. In fact, it will be simpler.
