Cosmos (ATOM) is a cryptocurrency that operates on a decentralized network of independent parallel blockchains, known as “zones,” which use Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus algorithms such as Tendermint. These zones can communicate with each other through the Cosmos Hub, a central hub that acts as a bridge between the different zones. This allows for the creation of a decentralized network of blockchains that can exchange value with each other.

One of the main advantages of Cosmos is its scalability, which is achieved through the use of BFT consensus algorithms and a modular design that enables the creation of multiple parallel chains. Cosmos was founded in 2014 by Ethan Buchman and Jae Kwon under the name Tendermint Inc. Ethan Buchman is currently the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Cosmos and is responsible for leading the technical direction of the project.

Jae Kwon is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cosmos and is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of the company. He is also the creator of the Tendermint BFT consensus algorithm, which is used by Cosmos and other blockchain projects.
