WEB2

A generic term for next-generation Internet-related technologies, services, and business models based on unconventional ideas. The term was first used in the United States around 2004. Although it does not refer to a specific technology or clear concept, several characteristics can be identified, including active and voluntary participation by users, and interactivity between information and service providers and users. Specific examples include Internet encyclopedias where users can freely write, video posting sites where users can publish video files, social bookmarking, and open source software development.
