[English version below]

Ku esei den kabes, lagami kontinua kumi introdukshon.

Presente! Mi a nanse na aña 1997 (28 aña) na Kòrsou I nan a duna mi e nòmber Ruben.

Asina mi a bai studia afó den 2015 na Hulanda, mi a kuminsá wòrdu eksponé na diferente estilo di bida manera yoga, meditashon, ekologismo, filosofianan di e parti oriental/zuid, dieta vegetariano i veganismo i pensamentu polítiko ku mi a enkotrá den bukinan ku mi a kumisa lesa. E eksperensianan aki en kombinashon ku lesamentu  di buki a laga  mi refleha mas riba mi orígen, posishon ekonómiko, bentaha  i desbentahanan.

Mi a bai Radulphus College i a gradua i risibí e oportunidat pa studia den nos kolonia kontra-parte Hulanda. Esaki ta un ruta konosi ku hopi  hoben ku ta bini di Kòrsou sa hasi. Durante mi estudio mi a risibí sosten finansiero privá i gubèrnamental.

E kambio den ambiente i e akseso privilegiá na tempu a duna mi un oportunidat pa skucha i lesa tokante kultura, trauma, klasse/rikesa, spiritualidat, ekologia, ekonomia, teknologia, sosiedat, opreshon, historia i filosofía. Lesando i skuchando “thinkers” i autornan kritiko manera Peter Joseph, Walter Rodney, Angela Davis, Karl Marx, Franz Fanon, Paulo Freire, Simone de Beauvoir, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Thomas Piketty, Gabor Maté, Adam Smith, Rose-Mary Allen, Anton de Kom, Alice Miller, Donella Meadows, Osho, Kate Pickett, Richard Wilkinson, Jacque Fresco, Tara Brach, Katharina Pistor i hopi mas.

Durante mi estudio na Hulanda mi a kaba un Bachelors komersialmente dirigi den ‘entreprenuership & management’ miéntras ku mi tabata traha durante i despues di mi estudio. mi a desidí pa eksplorá mundu debí na mi edat hoben. Loke mi a siña pa medio di biahamentu a permiti mi mira mi mundu un tiki mas diferente. E temporada  aki a hiba mi pa biahenan kaminda mi a bishita permakultura intensional, komunidatnan polítiko den mundu mientras ku mi tabata traha foi distansha pa un aña. Despues ku mi tabata tin e privilegio di biaha i lesa mi a disidí pa sigui ku akademia. Mi a hasi un Master den sociologia na Lisbon, Portugal. I resientemente mi a bin biba bek Kòrsou pa por traha mas aktivo riba e situashonan politiko i sosio-ekonomiko lokal. Durante e eksperensia di bida kòrtiku aki ku reflekshonan profundo mi a kuminsa  komprendé e lucha di klase atrabes di teoria i ku e observashon di e kresementu di mi famia den klase ekonómiko i e resultadonan sosio-ekonómiko.

Keda gentil,

A small explanation of why we decided to write an introduction. We from Sin Kabes believe that we all experience the world through different lenses which are largely formed by our biases and intersections. Which in turn influences how much power we hold and how much space we take in. That's why we need to use an intersectional approach for our introduction.

That being said, I'll continue now with my introduction.

Presente! I was born into this world on the island of Curacao and given the name Ruben (he/him) in 1997. My parents were both brought up in middle-class socio-economic conditions, formerly academically educated and entrepreneurial. As the eldest child of 3, I am currently 28 years old and have been brought up in a stable social environment with my parents still being happily together since their marriage in 1996 and old enough only to remember one house I grew up in I can say I have had a stable social and economic environment.

With the economically successful entrepreneurial and career ventures of both my parents, I started to experience the fruits of their labor. The privilege to travel a lot with my family from a young age. stable financial provided with the main resources our parents believed were important for me and my siblings to prosper. Being raised in a baptized family (Roman catholic) like the majority of people of Curaçao I was raised with mainly traditional Western European values and narratives. In the early years of my life, I would be exposed to a diet with animal meat as the most important component on my plate.

With my parents being heterosexual my siblings and I were brought up in a hetronormative culture and my parents were silent symbols of this form of intimacy and partnership between humans. From a fairly young age, I and my siblings were informed of other sexualities on the sexual spectrum, not as a threat but as a possible and accepted form of romantic/ sexual life for each one of us. The awareness of the color of my skin and other physical features arose around the first years of high school.  due to some interactions with friends, one of them commented that people would like me more because my hair is softer and not hard (‘Nan gustabu mas paso bo kabei ta lisu anto no duru’). Whilst experiencing my teenage years in high school, at home our philosophy was always that everyone is equal. Yet being immersed within one social economical reality made it hard to see the inequities and inequalities that were and are currently running amok through the society of Curacao.

Once I went to study abroad in 2015 in the Netherlands, I started to become exposed to different lifestyles such as yoga, meditation, environmentalism, eastern/southern philosophies, vegetarian and vegan diets, and political thought through people and books. In addition, living in the southern province of Noord-Brabant I had adverse experiences related to being a colored immigrant from Curaçao. These experiences in combination with books made me more reflective of my origin, economic position, disadvantages, and advantages. I became more attentive and reflective of my identity, origins, society, belief systems, and the global social structure of the world.I have been supported culturally and financially through the educational institutions of the island. As a family that would quickly work their way up to the upper middle / lower upper class of Curacao. I went to Radulphus College and graduated and received the opportunity to study in the colonial counterpart the Netherlands as many others of the island do. While studying I received private and governmental financial support during my studies. This change in environment and privileged access to time granted me an opportunity to listen and read about culture, trauma, class/wealth, spirituality, ecology, economics, technology, society, history and philosophy. Reading and listening to critical thinkers such as Peter Joseph, Walter Rodney, Angela Davis, Karl Marx, Franz fanon, Paulo freire, Simone de bouvoir,  Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Thomas Piketty, Gabor Mate, Adam smith, Alice Miller, Donella Meadows, Osho, Kate Pickett, Richard Wilkonson, Jaque Fresco, Tara Brach, Katharina Pistor and many more.

During my studies I completed a commercially driven BA in entrepreneurship & management while working during and after my studies I decided to explore the world due to my younger years. The learnings from traveling always allowed me to see my world a little differently. During this time I visited intentional permaculture communities, and political communities worldwide while working remotely for a year. While having the privilege to travel and read I decided to continue with academia with a master’s in sociology in Portugal. After completing my Masters in Sociology, I recently moved back to Curaçao. This short life experience and reflection have brought me to an understanding of class struggle through theory and the observation of my family's rise in economic class and socio-economic outcomes.

Be gentle,
