Imagine a fish born inside an aquarium

For that fish, the glass walls define reality. It does not know the idea of “outside,” because everything it has ever experienced happens within. The reflections on the glass are its horizon.

Now, place two aquariums side by side. The fish see each other and believe they share one world. They are mistaken - yet their mistake is understandable, because illusion always feels real when the glass is clear enough.

We humans live in similar aquariums. Our tanks are made of concepts, languages, beliefs — transparent structures of thought that give us identity and comfort, yet quietly confine us. We peer through them, thinking we are connected, unaware that we are still swimming within our own mental glass.

The ocean, however, is not elsewhere. It is what exists when the aquariums break. It is not reached by effort, but revealed when the walls of separation dissolve - when the boundaries of “I” and “you,” “mine” and “yours,” “inside” and “outside” no longer hold.

So the question isn’t how to escape. It’s whether we dare to see that the aquarium never truly existed. And in that seeing — the ocean appears.
