Juicebox contributor Nicholas on DAO compensation

This issue's guest is Nicholas (@nnnnicholas), who has worked on several DAOs and is best known as a core Juicebox contributor. In the interview, he talks about playing in several DAOs experience, and why he finally chose to stay at Juicebox. How Juicebox pays DAO contributors, and why he left Juicebox again.

This issue of Nicholas talked about a lot of project and product-level details, which are not included in this article. If you want to know these details, it is recommended to turn to the end and listen to the original text of the podcast. There are also subtitles with a timeline for everyone to listen to. understand.

Jess: Hey Nicholas dude! Old practice, tell me how you started playing DAO.

Nicholas: I am a latecomer to the Ethereum ecosystem. I entered this field in the late 20s and early 21s. I first came into contact with a little bit of FWB, and then I participated in SharkDAO very early. Then I came into contact with PartyDAO, which has a lot of Story (very long story, if interested, please listen to the original content). The end of the story is that I discovered JuiceBox. Because I saw that it was amazing to be able to do with juicebox. In my opinion, this is the real exciting thing. My biggest concern is this protocol that inspires creativity and builds the tools others use to create social experiences. So that's what drew me to JuiceBox.

Jess: I like this twisty answer, the process is full of randomness. Leaving aside the specifics in these DAOs, you are a developer yourself, right?

Nicholas: No problem. I do solidity development, and I also write NFT contracts. But at Juicebox I do a lot of community organization and operations.

Jess: Let's talk about Juicebox.

Nicholas: Juicebox is very open, anyone can join, and anyone can become a contributor. Vibe is very good. The founder doesn't have any privileges in the DAO. I just walked in and started contributing, and everyone supported me very much. In Juicebox, this is a very natural process. You come in, make a contribution, prove your interest and corresponding ability, and soon you can initiate a proposal to start a probationary salary, two weeks per cycle, not much money, between 500 - Between $1500. No matter what you do, development, operations, community, you can. After that, you can get paid on a more fixed cycle. What interests me very much is that many members are Anonymous. We allow people to contribute and earn money anonymously. So you need a way for people to build their credibility. It's not based on their education, previous work experience, it's all about what they do now and Corresponding performance. Some people have doubts about this (work first and then decide whether to take money or not), but there is no way, without this information, everyone does not know what you can do, you have to prove what you can do. This It's a bit like Vibe, very vague.

Jess: We all believe in Vibe. I think this retrospective reward is a very appropriate way. How people get paid in DAOs is an interesting topic. You seem to be doing a lot of things here, chatter?

Nicholas: I just went through the Constitution DAO when I first started at juicebox, and then we exploded, especially after the Constitution DAO failed. It suddenly became a Meme token, which went up many times over. People started reinvesting the money they made. In JuiceBox, I guess everyone may think it is a similar project, but it is not, we are completely different. But no matter what, we exploded, and the amount of the treasury also exploded. Then suddenly there were a lot of people who came to ask for money , we went through a process of discovery of community culture. Then I began to understand that traditional agency HR is not a dry meal, and it is necessary in many cases. On our side, what we learned is that we need to allow everyone to enter the trial period, in At this stage, you need to prove yourself. It's not enough to just be passionate and want to do things, you need to prove that you can make a difference. How much you get paid depends on how much work you get done, not how much time you spend.

Jess: Let’s be honest, how much does Juicebox usually give you?

Nicholas: The probationary period generally starts at $500 every two weeks and can go up to $1200, depending on what you do. After entering the official role, the income every two weeks starts from $2000 and can go up to $15,000 , or it depends on what you do. However, there are very, very few people who can make seven thousand dollars. They are all big cows and have made great contributions. These numbers are all transparent, and each stroke is clearly listed. You can go to Check out the juicebox website.

Jess: This is cool, every spend is transparent. We might try this in the future. You recently retreated from Juicebox. That's one of the benefits of a DAO, more freedom to come and go. What about leaving in the DAO?

Nicholas: I've been in Juicebox for seven months. I love Juicebox, but participation in all DAOs is risky. Everyone's threshold for risk is different. I think I need more time to think about how to participate as a core member in one DAO, what is the legal complexity. Also I would like to spend more time developing my own NFT projects and collaborative projects. It's still a tough decision. I love those friends and I believe in Juicebox's mission .stepping back gives me more time to spend on solidity.

Jess: One of the most interesting things for me in this field is that when someone takes a step back, there is always someone who comes forward. Today's conversation is about being able to see and get to know the many different types of friends who work in DAOs , they found their own way to participate early on. What else can we do with DAOs?

Nicholas: The biggest problem in the world is the social coordination problem, and cryptocurrencies and DAOs are the only technologies I have seen that might help with the social coordination problem. I went through and watched the whole social network explode. Lots of people More like Zuckerberg. But is he really evil? Or we just don't have better technology to solve this problem. Personally I don't think we have a good theory of how to run a huge hub like facebook better We also don't have a good social structure to manage these content and algorithms. I also don't think DAO can solve this problem now, but DAO and cryptocurrencies at least give us a chance to solve this problem, one for us to discover through evolution Opportunities to solve things with new things. I sincerely hope that we can reach some legal consensus and corresponding systems in the short term, so that people can participate in the DAO world more confidently and safely.
