Scaling solutions, such as sidechains, are insufficiently secure. This problem leads to large hacks, validators can be compromised. This prevents large-volume liquidity projects on these chains from turning around. The Axie Infinity hack was the largest hack in the history of the web3 ecosystem. The damage was over $600 million.
On the other hand, L2-level chains using Zk-Rollup technology, though far advanced in terms of security, don't have low enough transaction fees to fully compete with sidechains. Most of them use $ETH as their only fees token. In addition, it is difficult for such chains to make grants and incentivize developers.
Mantle builds to solve these two problems. Developers seek to combine Ethereum security through rollups, while using a modular approach to create a separate layer of data availability with EigenLayer EigenDA. EigenDA provides its security through a re-stacking mechanism, while delivering high performance, allowing it to process several gigabytes of data per second.
Comparing existing solutions, Mantle is not the only network that uses a modular approach. Another blockchain that uses modular technology is Celestia. What is the difference between these two chains? Celestia does not get its security from the Etherium network, allowing the execution layer to be either EVM or Cosmos.
