Getting an Error while registering or renewing your ENS?
How to fix it and Why it happens
Quickest fix is to add more funds.
You want to have an extra 10% on top of your renewal or registration fee.𝘛𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺
extra % protects ENS from ETHUSD fluctuations.

Here we have an example of renewing an ENS domain.
The same is applicable to when you are registering one off the premium too.
As you are seeing the price and wanting to proceed with the transaction this error pops up.
My usual recommendation to add more ETH to the wallet work

But I got curious and wanted to find out:
Why it happens?
And how much money exactly needed to be added?
Since it's a Metamask error we know it plain and simple:
We do not have enough Ether in that moment.
But why and how much should we add?

Here's the aftermath of that transaction and we can see that the initial 0.337E went for the renewal as it was shown in the ens domains app.
But what is that extra ~0.033E?
We can see that it comes from the resolver and goes back to the registering address, which is - yours!

To get more clarity, I went to the ENS discord where @serenae_fansubs quickly explained to me why it happens.
The protocol needs a temporary extra 10% of the funds to protect against ETHUSD fluctuations.
After everything is done, leftovers are returned to you as we saw above.

Now we know why it happens

how to fix it precisely!
Next time you are renewing or registering an ENS domain and getting an error:
Do not panic!
Make sure to have an extra 10% of funds in your wallet and enough to cover the Ethereum fees.
