Values: Getting things done, doing them well, having ideas seen, and creating a world that can be changed and where creation is possible.
Charles had always been sickly since childhood, enduring repeated hospitalisations. During these times, he tried to grasp some meaning but couldn't quite reach it. Staring at the play of light and shadow on the ceiling, even as a small child, he couldn't help but ponder the meaning of life and the nature of life and death. However, his mother saw these philosophical musings as a personality flaw that needed correction. During a summer camp, he changed himself forever. Everyone thought he had finally become socialized, but only he knew that a part of himself had been locked away in a safe that only he had the key to.
From then on, whenever someone tried to approach that safe, he would shout and walk away, diverting attention from it. In the eyes of his parents and teachers, he became a troubled youth: he worked hard to improve his physical condition, fell in love with basketball and adventure, walking the line between life and death. At the same time, he picked up smoking and drinking. He often did odd jobs in the community and was fortunately noticed by a local champion. He defeated opponents in many unrestricted matches, gaining a reputation in the community.
He finally gained recognition from everyone, including the "boss." The boss saw potential in him and had him deliver "good stuff" to illegal immigrants. When he completed his first big deal, the boss, as promised, placed several bundles of cash in front of him. He took the money home but felt like he had gained nothing. He took out the golden Zippo lighter the boss had given him and lit the cigarette dangling from his mouth. Watching the flickering flame, he tossed the lighter onto the stacks of bills. He realized this wasn't what he wanted; he still longed for a world where he could create and bring about change.
Now, he has arrived in a city where no one knows him...
