Today they announced the company trip got cancelled. While many other projects are having a good time off for holidays, not for us, because the NFT market down bad.
It’s been an issue for our company that teammates are complete strangers outside of work. Because of this, our HR has been working to resolve this by coordinating something face to face like company trips, team offsites, gatherings at conferences, virtual team building events etc.
When you work at a well-funded web3 company you normally get all this, it’s like one of the must have perks, because most of the companies have remote & geographically distributed teams, and there are a lot of physical events for crypto. There’s always the need for remote team to meet in person and drive morale. Especially when it’s competitive in talent market, they tend to provide full compensation for all these events.
It’s costly, but it wasn’t a problem, until now. It was only 6 months ago when our CEO said we don’t need to worry about cash, only not knowing how to spend money worries him. So when HR team proposed a company trip to Iceland for 10 days, it was an easy pass, until earlier in May when we started to cut budgets.
It got cancelled today. Because, hmm, we are in a bear market right now, and we would only resume the planning when the bull market’s back, well, which might be in 2024. So before that, the main perks are gone.
We just agreed to sacrifice 20% of the salary. And now we are not happy.
