My manager travelled to New York last week for Messari Mainnet so we haven’t been talking for more than a week. It’s the best for my quiet quiting plan: just lay back on work. But today he dm me on Discord, ask me,
“How’s everything?”
I stumbled, well, virtually. I either have been doing nearly nothing, or I can’t remember anything I’ve done. It’s Monday morning, can you blame me? So I was trying to beat around the bush, asking him about how’s NY, “Hey, it’s Sting’s Englishman in New York.”
Then he ask again, “How’s everything?”
Ok I have to say something. I dug out the list of my completed tasks on Asana, trying to see if there’s anything worth mentioned. Most of the works are routine tasks and didn’t take a minute. Resizing a banner for marketing team, change the color of the icons, etc.
Finally I found something I done last week. I drafted up a proposal about better design process, and invited everyone to comment on it. I also helped the marketing team coordinating a series of NFT design tasks. Looks like I’m not getting paid for nothing.
However, my manager read the proposal and asks why do I spend time on this, I explained a bit, then he didn’t reply. That’s what it’s like when you don’t sync with your manager every week, it’s really easy to lose direction. So I arrange a meeting to sync with him, tell him I sent an invite. Then he said oh it’s fine the proposal is okay, was just wondering the objective.
That was close, I almost lost my work motivation. Yes it’s that easy.
