Have you ever played a game that flopped? A game that everyone thought was going to be good and then failed expectations? That feeling of disappointment can be worse when you have invested both your time and money into it. There is a lot that goes into developing a gaming metaverse. As more projects pop up in the NFT space trying to provide unique roadmaps, this makes me wonder how many goals are achievable.
Firstly, you have the product. What makes a game or an experience unique for the client. Games have been made for over 50 years. Think of how many iterations of minesweeper, solitaire, or space invaders exist. Is the product unique enough to be brought to a publishing studio and developed? With how fast things move in Web3 your investors, those who bought an NFT asset want to see updates and results. Many times, I have seen projects start very high floor price and then experience a dip when it has been 2–3 months and have no tangible product. Why does it take so long to give updates to the community?
According to Online Game Design School, Even the most basic games can take over a year to produce. So, think of the more complicated, expansive ideas some NFT roadmaps have. Is this logical for a developer to produce? They say about 6–8 months are used on Design, Animation, modeling, and textures. This means at a minimum to see the product you have invested in this is how long you should expect to be holding for. Will we see these Metaverse NFT stand up to the test of time or will paper hands get cold feet and sell? Some people can’t afford to hold for several years and need liquidity.
A few Projects who I think are doing a good job with communication between the community is the Sandbox, Rumble Kong League, and Bit Craft. I am on the fence with other projects including a newer project developed for gamers by gamers called MoreThanGamers. MTG has high aspirations and unique aspects they are wanting to implement into their “Metaverse”, but I question if the team can fulfill all the promises, they set out to do. The Founders hands are in many ventures from Esports to Web3. It is important to do your own research when buying a Metaverse oriented NFT but it is no doubt this next generation of gaming will be an exciting one.
