T-Piece
A "T-piece ventilation" or "T-piece resuscitator" is a medical device used to assist with breathing in patients who are unable to breathe adequately on their own. It consists of a T-shaped tube with an adjustable pressure valve and two connectors for attaching to a breathing circuit and a patient's airway.
During use, the T-piece is attached to an oxygen source and a breathing circuit, and the patient's airway is connected to the other end of the device. The pressure valve is then adjusted to provide the appropriate level of air pressure and volume to inflate the patient's lungs and facilitate breathing.
T-piece ventilation is commonly used in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to provide respiratory support to premature infants or those with respiratory distress syndrome. It allows clinicians to carefully control the amount of air pressure and volume delivered to the patient, which can be especially important in infants with delicate lung tissue.
