The badge flickered at the "west gate"

Our reporter Zhang Hongxu

My name is alijuan. I’m 32 years old. I’m an internal police officer in the traffic police brigade of Mangya Public Security Bureau of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. On December 27, 2018, Mangya city was unveiled in Huatugou Town, becoming the “youngest” city in China.

Mangya city is located in the west of Qinghai, on the side of Kunlun Mountain and on the edge of Qaidam Basin. It is the “west gate” of our province. The annual average temperature is 4.0 degrees Celsius. There is no organic city within a radius of 350 kilometers and no county within 200 kilometers. Over the past few years, my colleagues and I have scrupulously performed our duties and sincerely guarded the “west gate” with true feelings and sweat to ensure its safety and smoothness.

In 2013, after graduating from Qinghai Police Vocational College, I was admitted to the traffic police brigade of Youshashan branch of Haixi Public Security Bureau (with the establishment of Mangya City, the branch was incorporated into the Public Security Bureau of Mangya City, Haixi prefecture). At the beginning, after seeing that I was admitted, I imagined what kind of place Mangya was for several days in a row. When I first stepped into the boundary of Mangya, what I saw was a desolate and several weathered debris walls, as well as the “kowtow machine” for oil exploitation everywhere.

Facing the continuous desert Gobi, desolation and loneliness hit me, but my heart is hot. I vowed to use my youth and sweat to describe my colorful life in the vast Gobi.

Serving the people is our bounden duty. As the “west gate” of Qinghai Province, it is located on the main trunk road from Qinghai to Xinjiang. The traffic flow of national highway 315 in the area reaches more than 3000 every day, and the road traffic pressure is very high. (turn to the Sixth Edition)

Especially in winter, the sudden drop in temperature and the continuous raging wind and snow will make the road traffic safety management situation in the area extremely severe. Every day and night, I go to the front-line police team to help the people patiently in case of snow difficulties.

In 2020, in the face of the sudden outbreak of new-type pneumonia, my colleagues and I took the initiative to sign up and go to the epidemic prevention and control checkpoint. We implemented a three shift alternating shift system every day, and adhered to the epidemic prevention and control checkpoint on Qianjin Road (Youshashan intersection) in Mangya City 24 hours a day. We checked every passing vehicle and every person, and cooperated with medical staff in information registration, vehicle return, body temperature monitoring, etc, Guard the passage into the “west gate” of our province.

During that time, the voice of colleagues was almost hoarse, and they were very tired after work every day. However, as soon as we arrived at the post, our standard of serious work did not drop at all, just to build a “first line of security at the west gate” for epidemic prevention and control in our province.

One day in 2018, when I was handling business for the masses at the road traffic violation handling window, a middle-aged man hurried in, looking cramped and nervous. He opened his mouth and said to me, “Comrade police, I’m wrong. I’ll make no mistakes next time.” Facing this situation, I poured him a glass of boiled water for the first time and calmed his mood. It was learned that he was a truck driver from Xinjiang. He was caught by electronic monitoring for speeding in Mangya district not long ago. This time, he came from Xinjiang. While dealing with violations, I carefully and patiently told him the consequences caused by the speeding of large trucks with the examples of traffic accidents I had handled, and made him willingly accept the punishment in the way of “family business”. Before leaving, he said: “your Mangya traffic police is the most humane traffic police I have ever met. Later, when you play in Xinjiang, you must find me and I will show you the beautiful scenery.”

“Be a humane traffic policeman”. Over the years, my colleagues and I have been practicing this concept with practical actions. As the backbone of the propaganda team and as a mother, I know that the safety of children on campus affects the hearts of every parent. At the beginning of each school season, my colleagues and I will go into the campus, use the “first class”, “eight entries” and other publicity activities to carry out in-depth road traffic safety publicity activities, understand the situation of poor students in the school and bring school supplies for them.

In addition to primary and secondary schools, we also carry out targeted traffic safety publicity activities for children in kindergartens under our jurisdiction. According to children’s cognition and acceptance ability, we make cartoon traffic safety publicity materials, traffic signs and other molds, introduce safety knowledge in words that children can understand, and let the “seed” of safety take root in their young hearts.
